Colin Powell is starting to see Evil Boogey Men everywhere he looks now. I guess he picked that up from Bush and Wolfo-LOL-owitz.

From MSNBC (http://msnbc.com/news/965704.asp) yesterday:

"[Powell] said the security situation remains challenging, with a 'major new threat' coming from 'terrorists who are trying to infiltrate into the country for the purpose of disrupting this whole process.'

"The secretary gave a rough estimate of 100 such infiltrators and said he was confident that the U.S. military can handle the problem."

I wonder if Colin is more or less sure of this new infomation he is providing, compared to his February statement of 100-500 tons of WMD in Iraq. You know, the one that was NOT TRUE.

He made the statement while visiting a mass grave in Iraq for the 5000 people Saddam gassed 15 years ago when Reagan was president (1988). That was shortly after Reagan and Bush Sr. met with Tariq Aziz, representing their new ally, Iraq. And shortly before Bush Sr. did nothing after learning of the gassing. I wonder what urgent business Powell had that he had to visit Iraq yesterday to look at the grave. Could it have been a PUBLIC RELATIONS move with absolutely no substance, since the administration wants to bury the fact that no WMDs have been found to date?

Or am I just being paranoid and sarcastic? Oh, wait, but then it is Powell who sees a MAJOR NEW THREAT in the foreign invasion of 100 rag-tag fighters into a region containing 150,000 well-armed US ground troops.

I heard that report too and I noticed that he was essentially conceding that the terrorists in Iraq were foreigners who were infiltrating the country as opposed to being people who were already in Iraq and were who were trained there. However, the pre-war publicity machine was saying that Saddam was supporting terrorists and there were already quite a few in Iraq.

Go figure!

So does the US army provide a more favorable climate for foreign fighters in Iraq than Saddam did?

It's all so confusing!!!!!

Too Right!

I view it as a case of where a stupid and rash action has turned an incorrect assessment into a correct assessment.
