I don't suppose anyone here is playing Tron2.0 or Star Wars Galaxies, my current distractions?

My kids play too much 'Natural Selection'. I like to play DOD, but have given up on it because it has been ruined by cheats.

Probably won't be playing SWG, but I've been on the Tron demo for a while. Once I get the full version we'll have to hook up and perpetrate mayhem. ;)

Working on Tron 2.0. Just got off the guard-turned-tug level.

Seriously addicted to BF1942. I used to play Desert Combat until I got suspicious of people shooting me from nearly the other side of the map (usually in vehicles). Turns out DC has tons of cheats for it, like fogless maps and tag hacks (that's just a sampling). I also watched a guy fly accorss the map into our base (parachutes down all of the sudden) once but nobody seemed to give a crap. He actually got tons of kills that way (he'd die then just fly back in).

So I stick to the regular BF now.

Tron is pretty great - it's not everything I could have asked for, but it's definately a lot more than I expected. I hear the multiplayer has a very bad exploit in it right now, but they're working on the patch... I'm right near the end of single player now. Great fun!

I've been playing Enemy Territory a lot lately ... it's a great FPS and free! It's based on Return to Castle Wofenstein.

It's the first FPS I've actually enjoyed playing, since there's some level of strategy and variety that allows players like myself (who aren't world-class mouse movers) to have an enjoyable game.

Q3 provides great graphics and Punkbuster on most servers provides a cheat-free experience.

It's not perfect, of course, but I'd recommend checking it out.

I don't know what they think they actually win when they cheat. They aren't winning BF, because they aren't playing that game.

Well, some DC vehicles are designed to shoot across entire maps (MLRS, SCUD-B, art'y, etc). ;) You'd be surprised what 4 or 5 people can accomplish working together. I've seen some things in the past that made me suspicious also, but most of what I've learned about DC makes me think the majority of oddities in previous versions were bugs in the game more than anything else (e.g. being able to deploy a mortar IN a wall, lol).

Same with BF1942, unfortunately -- what you've mentioned isn't specific just to DC but the game in general -- but EA, Dice, and the DC development team are trying to stay a step ahead of the cheaters.

That became known as the "superman" exploit which existed in the 1.4 patch for BF, and it existed across all platforms, not just DC. It's been corrected in the 1.45 patch that was released recently. If you did some funky button combination you could get your character to fly across the map... hence the "superman", but again, that's history now.

So I stick to the regular BF now.

Well, Desert Combat .4J just came out the other day, and it's much more nicely balanced. Before you hang it up for good, might want to give it a try. It's available in 2 versions, the 223mb patch (which doesn't seem to work from any of the sites I downloaded), and the 537mb full install, which is the one I'd recommend getting.

I see allegations of cheating in regular BF and the mods all the time, but very rarely is anything funky going on. Many players are just plain skilled. If you want to avoid cheaters, your best bet is to play regular BF and RTR on Pure servers. That aside, I'd recommend you give the new DC a shot before calling it quits. It's a hoot.

Lastly, I realize we're separated by a big ole pond, but if you ever want to hop on our server, click the URL in my sig. All the info's listed in the forums.

Yeah, boggles my mind too. Thing is though, even if someone is using cheats, skilled players win the battle anyway. You're gunna need a helluva lot more than a no-fog hack or the other silly tricks to take me out.
Cheater or not, I pound 'em into submission regardless.

Bleh, multiplayer games, I've exhuasted my patience for them(I've multi-played since Battlezone and up to ET). I just finished System Shock over the summer, and I reinstalled Total Annihilation yesterday. I'm intent on downloading a glorious plethora of third party units and maps, and having fun assaulting AI opponents in skirmishes, who needs other humans?

I tend to lose interest in shooters quickly. I only got through Jedi Knight 2 because it was Star Wars. However, there is a Call of Cthulhu game coming out that I might try...

I'm currently playing NASCAR Racing 2003, F1 Challenge, and Grand Prix Legends. I totally suck at F1, but I gots to race.

Military and flightsims for me, with an occasional turn around the racetrack.

Primarily WWII online, IL-2 Sturmovik (forgotten battles).

For racing, Grand Prix Legends, and the various sportscar mods for EA's F12002.

Yep, best thing to do is get into them and paint your own targets (using binoculars). However, I was talking about a guy that sat way at the back of the map and riddled my tank with bullets. Slowly but surely my tank (or any other vehicle) would blow up. I couldn't see where the shots where coming from initially until I started to drive towards the enemy base. Sure enough, when enough fog cleared he just sat there firing at me. And I do get a lot of view distance thanks to my video card.

Yes, however it seems to me DC is easier to exploit since it's a mod.

Yep, that's when I saw it happen (DC on 1.4). I figured he was cheating since on DC Battle of 73 Easting there's no planes, but he kept flying into our base somehow.

I really enjoy DC but it does get annoying when you're driving along and all of the sudden your vehicle starts to take damage. You look around, nobody's there.. Turns out some kid has a hacked map, sits in his base and shoots from accross the map.

I got my wife addicted to Diablo II. It's an older game, but it is a lot of fun & learning how to play it is very simple.

That, and we get to play cooperatively instead of PVP.

The v1.10 patch should be finished any day now. Blizzard says it's about a half an expansion set worth of changes; interesting they would go through the trouble for a game as old as this one.

I've been playing DOD since it was in its alpha stage and not very many servers i've been in has hardcore cheaters (in comparison to CS).
