Remember, "We Are the World?" Imagine it being sung by the guano-crazy Fred Phelps clan.

Courtsey of Warren Ellis's blog: http://www.warrenellis.com/?p=5361

Ellis is correct that the last bit may actually be the worst part.

It's a real accomplishment to produce an even worse version of "We Are The World" than the original.

Second chorus: You every one face a fiery day for your proud sinning (so just stop it). It's too late to change His mind.

Well, then, why stop it?

Yeah, we might as well really enjoy our sin.

Seriously. Mark my words, the next terrorist attack in the United States, if it is not by some idiotic emo kid looking for YouTube material, it'll be the Westboro Baptist Church bombing abortion clinics, malls, schools, courthouses, military funerals, that hamburger stand on the corner that a homosexual drove by once.

I gotta know, though, where do the offspring find mates if everyone else is so sinful? Does anyone remember the Lovecraft story with the inbred offspring of some Dutch folk that had mismatched eyes? And they all lived under a hill?

If they don't blow themselves up in Glory to God, that'll be the WBC in about 5-15 years.

It could be. They seem to have such a pathological need to be hated, that with this lawsuit limiting their ability to get out and inspire hatred, they may look for a more direct route to loathing. Like bombing. I doubt that they'd bomb an abortion clinic though. That would make some slightly-less-wacky fundies like them. They don't want anyone to like them.

Good to know though that even the users at YouTube gave this crap the lowest possible 1 star rating. Hope is not lost.

Reminds me of a little snippet from Jules Feiffer (source forgotten):

"Christ died for our sins. Dare we make his martyrdom meaningless by not committing them?"

Because WBC: More fun than the Bisection Method

...Sky News claims that WBC consists of "about 150 members".[9] BBC Two claims there are 71 members.[10] A compilation of the names of Phelps' grandchildren and great-grand-children, combined with his nine "loyal" children and their spouses, though, numbers 90[citation needed]. Those who followed Phelps Sr. after he was voted out of his old congregation, Eastside Baptist Church (a traditional Baptist church), were the Hockenbargers (whose offspring later married into the Phelps clan), George Stutzman, Chris Davis (who also married into the Phelps clan) and Theresa Davis (whose relationship, if any, to Chris Davis is unknown). In April 2000, Steve Drain, a documentary filmmaker, interviewed several Westboro members while taping a documentary on religious groups,[11] and came to accept their theology. The family (Steve and Luci Drain, along with daughters and son) joined the church.[12] The Drains are not related to either the Phelpses or the Hockenbargers, nor to anyone else from the original group.

In addition, at the outset several other Eastside members joined Westboro, but after Phelps began his activities (most notably his shooting of a dog that was irritating him[citation needed]), those members returned to Eastside or went elsewhere.

Phelps does not permit Westboro members to marry persons outside the church. As relatively few individuals have joined Westboro, there have been at least two marriages between the Phelps and Hockenbarger clans, resulting in some members having dual genealogical relationships[citation needed]. In the documentary The Most Hated Family in America, the young girls in the church express no interest in getting married, because "that's not what we are about" and "we're living in the last of the last days, times are very short".[13]...

We could be pro-active and set Al-Qaeda on them.

On second thoughts, that might not be such a good idea. They'd find too much in common.

The guru needs them to be hated, to bind them closer to him. Zep's right; when he dies, it all dies with him. There's no momentum - unlike, say, with Mormonism or Scientology.

Well, the world hates the Westboro Baptist Church. I think they get off on that. Seriously.

We mustn't forget that all adult humans are sexual creatures and, at the risk of sounding overly Freudian, I really think this whole thing might just boil down to Fred's sexual insecurity. It's hard to admit to yourself, and to others, that you're attracted to people of the same gender. I can only imagine how hard that must be when you're immersed in fundamentalist Christian dogma that teaches you those are evil thoughts from Satan that will send you to eternal damnation if you accept them. I don't find it hard to believe that all those pent up contradicting feelings could cause someone to go bonkers and start a fiery religious tirade against homosexuality.

Maybe self-hatred, and hatred in general, have become so linked to sexuality in his mind that he gets turned on by the hate directed at him. I don't know. But clearly he strives for it.

I don't think so; check out "narcissistic sociopath". They aren't sexual creatures, they use sex like any other manipulative device. This guy Phelps sounds like a classic example.

Nope. That isn't Fred's style, he's a word guy.

I'll counter your prediction. I expect a repeat of the Tim McVeigh move within the next ten years. The Loose Change crowd are one manifestation of that sentiment, but not the only one, and I do not believe that the sentiment that motivated McVeigh has vanished, now that he has been put to death. To some people he is a martyr.

Wrap your head around that one, if you can. It hurts me to try. :p

I see where you're coming from. Truthies are much of a piece with ZOG freaks and survivalists. Even some climate-change denialism lies on the fringes. Factor in a recession (which seems very likely) and there's certainly a danger. Hopefully, Homeland Security is all over that side of the terrorist threat.

Why?
Because Canadians have decided that any two people comitted to each other may join in a legal union....yuck ;)

ie. Same sex couples.
I'm still not sure we allow siblings to legal marry :D

I see, that almost makes sense then. Why do they give a rip about Canada? I thought they were more a "American is Doomed" group.

I re-watched that "Most Hated Family" documentary after seeing this thing. Man, Fred is a real jerk. His whole group seems very off-beat and awkward, like they're not sure what to do with themselves.

How much Homeland Security can do is one question, how much of the Constitution is to be trampled upon in that pursuit of an unknown but suspected threat is part of the ongoing public debate that has arisen since the Patriot Act arrived.

Some risk has to be accepted, since you cannot provide perfect security.

Where's the knee in the curve?

I honestly don't know, but I do know that the IED in Iraq has shown how dispersed tech can have bloodily massive results.
