From CBS Evening News Asks the Candidates about Global Warming (http://sierraclub.typepad.com/cleanenergywatch/2007/12/cbs-evening-new.html), here's a great quote from Mike Huckabee:

I think we ought to be out there talking about ways to reduce energy consumption and waste. And we ought to declare that we will be free of energy consumption in this country within a decade, bold as that is.

To paraphrase Homer Simpson (http://www.rpi.edu/~markhn/sounds/laws.wav): "Sir, in this election we obey the laws of thermodynamics!"

Ah yes, the Baptist preacher that wants to quarantine the HIV positive and let the Hollywood stars pay for AIDS research. I sense another compassionate conservative.

The CBS site has a slightly different quote (http://www.cbsnews.com/stories/2007/12/11/eveningnews/main3605907_page2.shtml):
I think we ought to be out there talking about ways to reduce energy consumption and waste. And we ought to declare that we will be oil free of energy consumption in this country within a decade, bold as that is.
Right now I'm at work and can't view the video, but maybe that could clear up what he actually said.
But even if he is only talking about oil rather than all energy, it is still pretty far-fetched.
