A little help please...

I've finally got around to following the advice of those in the know and downloaded Firefox.

All is good except for one major thing. Although I have Firefox set to allow the visited webpage to choose fonts as IE7 does, there is a marked difference in type quality between the two browsers when viewing the same page. The fonts displayed in Firefox appear much "thinner" and aliased by comparison.

Much as I'd like show two fingers to Microsoft and make Firefox my default browser, it's pages are much less pleasant to read.

Any ideas?

Thanks.

Check to see if you have "Cleartype" enabled globally. IE7 sets cleartype internally even if it's off globally, whereas FF follows the Windows setting.

If you go to Display Properties --> Appearance --> Effects
Select to smooth the edges of screen fonts and select ClearType as the method, the FF fonts should look the same as the ones in IE7.

Yep, that did the trick. I'd never noticed the cleartype option before.

Fantastic. Many thanks Yalius.
