I was looking to see if this was here already, and I came across the wife beating thread:
http://forums.randi.org/showthread.php?t=102645
I did not think wife beating could stir up that much controversy. Certainly shooting teenagers has to be universally condemned.
Here is the link:http://www.foxnews.com/story/0,2933,320325,00.html
Authorities announced a $10,000 reward Friday for information leading to the arrest and indictment of a father accused of shooting his teen daughters and leaving them to die in a taxi.
An ongoing manhunt is under way for Yaser Abdel Said, 50, of Lewisville, Texas, wanted for shooting Sarah Yaser Said, 17, and Amina Yaser Said, 18, in his taxi Tuesday night. Police say they don't have a motive for the shootings, but believe a domestic issue may have led to the deaths.
A public viewing for Sarah and Amina Said was planned for 6 to 9 p.m. CST Friday in Dallas. Their funeral will be at 11 a.m. CST Saturday, also in Dallas.
Someone was able to justify this however in the following:

Well we are not Muslim, so who are we to tell that man what is right or wrong? How can we interfere with sharia law, god’s law?
1.4 billion people from the religion of peace can’t be wrong.
That is a huge consensus. We need to be more tolerant.

do you?
Personally, I'd wait till he was found guilty and not flush various principles like presumption of Innocence, rule of law, Due process...all that stuff. I'm kinda attached to it.
If its someone thinking they can kill someone because a supernatural being thinks its ok they should be taken out of society for a long time, I'd be happy with term of life without remission for such a callous double murder if its found proven.
Although its quite likely on the surface I'd also wait to pass judgement on the motives too.

I've been following this story since I was breaking Thursday. I knew it was an honor killing as soon as I heard about the two daughters and the dad being Arab. Latest word on local media is that the police think he's still in the Metroplex.
Let's not forget though that honor killings tend to be cultural more than religion specific since Hindus will do the same.

Slight correction to the verbiage on this part of the story. The reward is being offered by Schepps dairy that puts the $10,000 up whenever there is a high profile, particularly tragic murder.

This Muslim immigrant in Texas reportedly shot his two teenage daughters to death because he disapproved of their "Western lifestyle."
Note to all prospective Muslim immigrants: We do have a lifestyle here in the United States, so if you don't think that you'll like it, then please don't come.

His wife, and the girls mother, is a native American. Perhaps the message, publicized since "Not Without My Daughter", is that Western women shouldn't marry Muslim immigrant men.
Daniel, it appears fuelair is appealing to "frontier justice" aka "lynching" aka "some folks just deserve killing" which isn't as pervasive a sentiment amongst civilized Texans as European sources and world-wide myth would suggest. My personal bias makes me hope he is killed in a shootout with law enforcement, but that's because I find crimes against girls and women more offensive... especially your own daughters when you merely didn't like that they were "too American."
There are means by which law enforcement and the legal system can deal with this horrible crime in Texas even without vigilante actions.

Exactly. You don't fight barbarian savages by becoming one.

If dear dad did it, Texas is still a death penalty state, would this stand up as a death penalty case?

Because that is the American honor killing tradition, and we need to keep it that when people are killed for honor it is a properly American definition of honor. Like not having to make any attempt to avoid a dangerous situation, because that is unmanly and so dishonorable. Hence stand your ground laws.

Quite likely, minority in texas with a well publicised killing? Death penalty shoe in.

An Oak Forest grandfather accused of setting a fire that killed his pregnant daughter, her husband and their 3-year-old son was held without bail Tuesday, charged with three counts of first-degree murder, arson and one count of intentional homicide of an unborn child.
Subhash Chander, 57, set the fatal blaze because he didn't like his son-in-law, prosecutors said.

Yep, definately a Hindu.
Chander, of 5049 W. 159th St., Apt. 25, Oak Forest, is of Indian descent and considered his son-in-law unacceptable, Milan said. He considered Arora to be from a lower social caste than his daughter and himself, Milan said. There had been trouble between the families for about three years, Milan said.
I don't know how pervasive honor killings are outside of Central Asia, but that's where they seem to be concentrated socially IMO. From what I know, in East Asian, European and Latin American countries it's the male who suffers the brunt of societal rejection/retribution (if you knock my sister up, I'm going to kill you). Africa I really don't even have anecdotal stories to go on.

Well who's left? The children, of course (http://observer.guardian.co.uk/world/story/0,,2224553,00.html).

It more like a father killing his daughters will get 'em a death sentance.
Heck even if he gets life in prison he will probably still get killed. The prison population don't take too kindly to men who kill children.
The husband of a friend of mine was wraped in toilet paper and towels and set on fire in prison because he killed a 4 year old girl in a drunk driving accident.
