View Full Version : Pentagon- how many bodies unidentified?

It is my understanding that regarding the Pentagon crash, 183 of 189 bodies were identified, with 5 of those being the hijackers, who are merely identified by the process of exclusion (along with one victim).

Is this the case or not? Someone is trying to state that there were 10 bodies that are unidentified, and I cannot seem to understand how he's getting the idea.

bodies unidentified, or victims whose remains were not found? theres a difference

at the pentagon there are the 5 hijackers who were unidentified (although they might have been identified later from DNA collected at their apartments) and 1 passenger for whom no remains were found

And some DNA of hijackers was taken from the steering wheels of their cars as well.

Here is another source from AIFP:
http://www.afip.org/Departments/legalmed/legmed2002/kelly.htm

and

http://www.nmhm.washingtondc.museum/exhibits/911/

The AFIP successfully identified 184 Pentagon victims, provided positive DNA identifications on all 40 Pennsylvania victims, and developed genetic profiles of the terrorists that could not be matched to any of the other victims.

So there were 11 total? It appears so, according to Gravy's link. I realize that the hijackers were identified by the process of exclusion, and one other passenger is normally listed with them, but I didn't realize that there were 5 others as well.

From that link:

"Following approximately 2 1/2 weeks of remains processing and two months of DNA analysis, 183 unique identities were generated from the remains of the attack of those killed in the Pentagon, yielding 178 positive identifications. Some of the remains for each of the terrorists were recovered as evidenced by five unique postmortem profiles that did not match any antemortem material provided by victims families. No identifiable remains for five of the victims known to have been killed in the attack were ever recovered."

Is there any way to know where these five came from; the Pentagon or the plane? I really hate to admit his to him, because we've argued about it for awhile, and it's just going to fuel his "I know I'm right about a government conspiracy" attitude. Based on other reports, it had sounded as if there were only six bodies that weren't positively identified, being 5 hijackers and one passenger.

ill try to find a source but i read that all but 1 passenger from the flight 77 was identified, so that would mean 4 from th epentagon werent found

I believe the one passenger in question was Dana Falkenberg, aged 2. Her DNA was not found at the crash site but according to relatives she was on AA77 with her parents and sister.

Yes the "5 victims" unidentified, likely included 4 that worked at the pentagon, and the infant.

Identifying the hijackers "by exclusion" is actually more specific in this case:

The only two brothers who died at the Pentagon on 9/11 were hijackers Nawaf and Salem al-Hazmi. Remains of two brothers were identified by DNA: "The DNA results strengthened the hypothesis that two of the terrorists were brothers, as indicated by other evidence. Two of the terrorist STR profiles aboard the AA Flight 77 gave a sibling index greater than 500. To further test the hypothesis of maternal relatedness, AFDIL sequenced the HVI and HVII regions of mtDNA for these individuals. The sequences generated did match in HVI and HVII, which is consistent with a maternal relationship between the two men." –http://www.cstl.nist.gov/div831/strbase/pub_pres/Edson2004.pdf (p. 83)

Gravy,
I see you have a picture of the victim location graphic on your site:

I remember seeing an interactive version of this page, but haven't been able to find it since I changed computers (and lost some of my downloaded files).
Do you recall, or does anyone know where that document can be found?

You're welcome.

Note to others though, it is an 18Mb ZIP file and takes some time to load and open.

Thanks, defaultdotxbe. The .gov zip file comes up invalid when I try to extract. I know it worked before on XP machine, so I thought it might be this goofy Vista OS.

That exe file worked fine. I had loaded it from the .gov site previously with no problem...but, go figure.
Sorry it took a while to respond....I have a sick kitty (coincidentally a coal black NWO Kitty protege) that I'm nursing after surgery tonight...but he's doing ok, and disobeying all the doctors orders about not jumping or getting playful...how do you keep a cat from playing or jumping....:boggled: )

That was him! I wasn't anywhere near the keyboard.:boxedin:

Edit: Actually he's curled up by my side and purring at the moment, so I don't think he's really in the mood to bite anyone right now.
