If George Bush can be one, why not someone who can actually read?;)

Librarians oppose shushing action figure (http://www.cnn.com/2003/US/West/09/08/offbeat.librarian.ap/) (CNN)On Web sites and discussion groups, in phone calls and e-mails, librarians from as far as Australia have made it clear how annoyed they are with the doll and Nancy Pearl, the 58-year-old real-life librarian who posed for the action figure.
One unsigned e-mail accused Pearl of setting the profession back 30 years.

I suppose they would have preferred it if the action figure had been based on this mighty warrior of knowledge:

Yes, it is he: Conan - the Librarian (from the movie UHF)

I think it is silly to be annoyed at the action figure. I know that if they made a Computer Programmer action figure (with "Coffe Swigging action") I would be more amused than anything and would likely buy one myself, even if it played into every thinkable stereotype that exists about the profession.

"What I should have done was yanked her hair and sat on her, but I didn't think of it at the time." From the toddler-jutsu school of martial arts, obviously. Juvenile, but effective.

Yeah, well, the Archie McPhee figure isn't as cool as Super Librarian! (http://www.njlibraries.org/)
No limits.
No boundaries.
Know your library.

I'd much rather have my child play with a plastic librarian than a plastic Bush. My mother always said "Dumb rubs off" and I have a feeling that Bush in his "action ready" flight suit is just about the sumbest thing ever conceived by a PR team.

Your mother was wrong. In Bush's case, the dumb doesn't rub off, it goes all the way to the marrow.

I remember my mother was pretty pissed off when she heard about this action figure on NPR (she's a librarian).

Would you settle for a squeeky zen monk with espresso and cell phone? http://www.mcphee.com/bigindex/current/10127.html

Should a Librarian action figure not feature a (scaled down) 300lb orang-outan which says "Oook!" ?
