OK, I don't know if it's called that. But it is the window which appears when you simultaneously press Crtl Alt and Del. Now when it comes up the damn window no longer has a cancel button or an X, so I can't actually get rid of it! If I press alt ctrl and del again, I just get another window, so then I have 2 windows I cannot get rid of. I can only get rid of them by restarting. So what's happened here? I use Windows XP pro.

It sounds as if your machine has been hijacked. This link may be relevant even though your problem isn't described: http://www.computing.net/windows2000/wwwboard/forum/49836.html

You may have something like this: http://www.symantec.com/avcenter/venc/data/trojan.pwsteal.widget.html

I'm assuming you've already run Ad-Aware or Spybot S&D ....

I just decided to search the google groups. I got this (http://groups.google.com/groups?num=50&hl=en&lr=&ie=UTF-8&oe=UTF-8&newwindow=1&safe=off&q=%22can%27t+close+task+manager%22&btnG=Google+Search) thread.

The guy's description of the problem is identical to mine. The response just below "Double click the top border" worked! LOL

I didn't read that thread (it seemed to be down when I tried), but couldn't you just click the "Processes" tab and end the "Taskmgr" process?

Ah, the thread was up and I read it. Interesting, I'll have to leave it sitting like that to someone... ;)
