At long last we have an uncompromising TV prgram that debunks the paranormal!

It's called 'Psychic Secrets Revealed' and is on Channel 5 at 8.30 on Friday evenings.

I posted only last week about how pathethetic Tv shows were in fence sitting on paranormal issues for fear of alienating viewers, but Friday evening's show as just terriffic.

It began with Andrew Cook replicating a Uri Geller stunt involving four people lifting up a fifth using only their fingers.

It then went on to show Andrew completely fooling a London Unversity psychology departement with an ESP demonstration under 'controlled' conditions.

Next was a simple but effective demonstration of 'psychic' metal bar bending. Then we got a seance that had the sitters completely fooled.

Next week's show will feature mediumship. Should be worth watching.

If you are in the UK I really recommend this show to you.

:)  :D

I'd love to see that, but I don't get Channel 5 and don't have satellite or cable :(

Can you keep us posted on next week's installment, Ron?

I taped it, but haven't got around to watching it yet.

And there was me thinking that because it was on Channel 5 it'd be a soft porn show, possibly starring Mystic Meg.

This is a truly excellent show. I really hope they release it on video or DVD. Over the weeks Alistair Cook is going to debunk pretty much every psychic trick in the book.

This week was ESP, seances, 5 person levitation trick adn the bending bar.

Still to come we have mediums (Cold reading), spoon bending, psychic surgery, telekinesis, restarting broken watches and many more!

It's like Flim Flam! on the small screen!

Isn't it at this stage that Luci normally makes a post to 'fellow sceptics' to say how great the show was in demonstrating real psychic phenomena?

This is a great prog. The first episode didn't say it was revealing the secrets and just showed the guy doing all kinds of stuff. I soon guessed this was going to be an expose program. Especially he went from bending spoons to psychic surgery to thoughtography. Some of the tricks look obvious i.e. pinning magnets to clothing etc

But I look forward to some of the explanations.

Dammit, I missed it - why do they do these things when I'm on holiday? Selfish swines..............
Anyone tape it?

Yeah I taped - just finished watching it a minute ago.

I haven't got a tape copy thing though, and I think this series is one to keep - I'll try and tape them all on the same tape. I'm happy to lend out though, if anyone's got any bright ideas about the best way to do it.

It's a damn good show. Made me feel quite good too, as my mind seems to work in a similar way to the mentalists - I think all my reading's paid off!

The most interesting thing though was the reaction of the audiences: often the people after one of the tricks, before it'd been explained, would say things like "well, before I was a sceptic, but now I believe!"... what?! After one show, without checking or even bothering to think about other explanations, you've eschewed your scepticism? I think this is the kind of pseudo-scepticism most 'believers' come into contact with, the kind that rely on insubstantial arguments and are easily swayed by crap, and it's no wonder that they have little time for it.

The scariest bit was when the psychology faculty of a university was shown zener card ESP, and afterwards said exactly those things - "oh, we just don;t understand enough of the brain, I think there has to be more going on than we can understand" - psychologists! I'm ashamed for the profession I'm training in.

Regarding the Geller 'levitation' trick, I didn't think anybody would still fall for that one - until I went to see Geller's stage show last year. He did that one, and I looked around thinking "oh, he's done it this time, everyone'll know he's a charlatan" - people were shocked and amazed, gasping as the guy was lifted! I wanted to stand up and explain, but I don't think it would have achieved anything.

Looking forward to the next episode now, I think this series should be shown in schools! Possibly during RE.

Nuclear I would be happy to pay the postage if you would be kind enough to lend it to me. I am honest and trustworthy and I even return books I borrow!
If this would be OK, pm me.

The great thing is that it is on at prime time too. They haven't hidden it away at 1.00am.

Good on Channel 5!

It seems a number of people missed the show, so let's all keep plugging it.

Does any one know how to contact Channel 5? They may be planning repeat showings.

Will they be showing this on BBC America, or PBS, or one of the other stations we Yanks receive on the west side of the pond?

I'd ask for someone to video tape it for me, but I know you Brits use PAL for everything and a PAL tape won't work in my NTSC VCR.

Hopefully they will either sell it on DVD, or show it here in Australia in some way. Curse our lack of british TV shows.

Yeah, but at least you Aussies have easy access to PAL TVs and VCRs.

True, true, mind you any TV and VCR made in the at least the past 5 years is always NTSC and PAL switchable, why isn't it the same in the US? Are your manufacturers refusing to admit the rest of the world exists, or do you just have old equipment at your house?
