View Full Version : Help With a Song

There is a song on this band's MySpace page at http://profile.myspace.com/index.cfm?fuseaction=user.viewprofile&friendID=218868298 but I can't find it anywhere. Does anyone have a way to capture this song from the flash player? (Or at least can read French to see if there is a CD available in the states?)

I thought there might be a Firefox add-on or something that I heard of but I'm not that familiar with Firefox. Or am I barking up the wrong tree?

Thanks.

Download audacity (http://audacity.sourceforge.net/).

Set the source to something or other, can't remember which and I don't have it on this PC, possibly stereo or something.

Click the red record button.

Play the song on myspace.

Stop recording, tidy up the ends of the song. Export as mp3, whatever.

Feel mildly guilty that you just stole someone's music.

Have a nice day!

Might as well download the song as an mp3 then. Much better quality for the same guilt. ;)

I would if I could find it anywhere. I'd gladly pay for it as well if I could find it on a CD or something. All my searches so far have been fruitless, I think this band only exists on MySpace and where ever they are playing live, presumedly in France somewhere, which is on the other side of the world from me.

I've tried contacting them but perhaps they are ignoring English e-mails. In any case, a woman is involved, so guilt is the last thing on my mind.

Freecorder Publisher's Description

Freecorder does exactly as it sounds -- it is an easy-to-use free software program that lets you record any sound you can hear on your PC. Recordings are saved as MP3 files. Freecorder is a great way to get started with capturing audio on your PC.

The Orbit Downloader plugin for Firefox can grab it. I have got it. PM sent.

Looks like they just recently signed up with their label etc and haven't cut a CD yet. Or my french is more pants than I thought.

Argh, tried everything suggested here on a laptop with XP and a tower with Vista. Firefox with orbit just saves the web page, I must be doing something wrong. Audicity (which I use and love) and the others just records blankness. I tried every configuration.

I guess I'll dig out my cassette recorder and record it from my headphone jack then play it back to Audacity. I'm sure I'll lose some quality that way, but oh well. Does anyone make blank cassettes any more?

What we go through to please the opposite sex.

If you have the Orbit plugin, then here is how you do it:

Close Firefox or just close the tab of the page in question.
Open the Orbit application from your desktop and select Tools - Grab++. This will open a little window where the media will be displayed.
Now open up the web page and play the song you are looking to download. The file should show up in the Grab++ window. In this case they end in MPEG for some reason. That is OK. Check the box and hit download. You can just rename them to MP3. No conversion necessary.

If you say so. It works fine for me using "mono mix". You obviously have a strange setup.

I realize that the original poster is using Windows XP, and that Orbit solved the problem.

For anyone who would like to do this on a Mac, Audio Hijack (rogueamoeba dot com) and Wiretap Studio (ambrosiasw dot com) do a great job of grabbing *any* sound from *any* other application on the Mac.
