View Full Version : Death of a laptop?

I just got a hard drive/enclosure to use as a back up. I plugged it into my laptop this morning. It made a few strange beeps and then the laptop died - turned off. I thought it was just shut down but it will not turn on. :eye-poppi
I was trying to be good! To back things up! What strange game of irony are the computer gods playing with me?
Is there any hope? What should I do?
Thanks!

Try taking the battery out of the laptop for a minute or so.

It is resurrected! And it didn't even take three days.
But seems very sluggish.
Fortunately, one of the tech guys at work can take a look at it this morning. Hopefully, he will be able to perform his usual magic.
Thanks, Mortimer.

Well, he saved everything from my laptop to the server, so I have a backup. That's good.
He thinks the laptop will remain sluggish and eventually die because of some electrical loop or something (that probably doesn't make sense but that's how I understood it).
He said he could reformat and reinstall everything but that might only buy me a few more months of life. Probably not worth his efforts/time.
