Members of the University's Latino community are furious over Sigma Chi fraternity's "Viva Mexico" party, held last Saturday night.
The concerned students and faculty said they see the party--which included invitations in the form of expired green cards and a "border control" at the door--as derogatory towards Mexicans and Latinos, and as a continuing example of how Latinos are marginalized on campus and beyond.

"It isn't just this one weekend; it isn't just Sigma Chi. I've been here three years and this is the straw that broke the camel's back," said Omar Rashid, a joint-MDJD candidate and president of the Duke Hispanic/Latino Law Student Association.

To some, the party seemed innocent and well-intentioned.

I don’t know what is worse, the fact that the latino fascists got mad, or the fact that Sigma Chi apologized for exercising their rights. The latino fascists deserve nothing more than a big fat f*ck you.

Sounds like it's part of an ongoing problem on the campus. Have you ever been harassed before? Little things can set you off after you've copped it for a while.

God forbid. Everybody was having a good time... and how dare they mock ILLEGALS?

F' em all if they don't like it. Send them to mexico if they like it so much and they're offended. Send all the liberal pukes there who try to piss on other peoples' good time.

This party was "harassing" the "latinos" the same way abortion clinics "harass" fundies.

We were thinking recently of having an American-themed party recently; you know, MacDonalds' style fast food and weak beer; everyone would wear loud shirts, bermuda shorts and padding and stay "in character" all night, shouting over everyone else and complain how nothing was as good as back home. We weren't going to bother with invites because guests could just walk in on whatever pretext they liked. Stereotypical? Definitely. But who, apart from the most PC-obsessed soft-hearted liberal leftist, would be upset about that?

Edited for spellin
