There is this book "Wo bitte geht's zu Gott?, fragte das kleine Ferkel" ('Please, where is the way to god?', asked the pigglet) it's for childeren and the big question if there is a god. It shows some aspect of the three Abrahamic religions Judaism,Christianity and Islam. It is, as I write this, the best selling book on Amazon.de.

Now a represantive, Ursula von der Leyens, of the Departement for Familiy, Seniors, Women, and Youths want's the book censored.

Now, as in most modern democracy, there is no actual censorship in Germany but an index of "jugendgefährdende Schriften (writings which harmfull to youths)". If a book is on it, you can make no advertisement/promote/or display it at all and can sell it only to an adult if you are asked directly about it. In some cases it gets even confiscated.

The case will be discussed March 6th by the Bundesprüfstelle für jugendgefährdende Medien.

Thank you for posting this, I've meant to write up on it for three days now...

Ever since the request has been made the book steadily climbed amazon.de's internal bestseller list (http://www.amazon.de/gp/bestsellers/books/) and is currently on place one.

On the other hand, the central council of Jews in Germany has commented that - even though they wouldn't consider the book as anti-Semitic - they would support a ban.

(Anti-Semitism being the argument used in the original request. Not only would the three major religions be ridiculed, but Judaism would allegedly receive the harshest treatment.)

Also it seems, but I am far from certain, that the central council of Jews has a vote in the decision, i.e. they get to delegate on of their own to the board making the decision.
