Former Sydney real estate agent Mary Donaldson is to marry the heir to the world's oldest monarchy, the Danish royal palace has announced.

The crown prince's private secretary, Per Thornit, said Queen Margrethe would allow her son, Frederik, to marry the Tasmanian-born law graduate.

The union must be officially approved by the Danish parliament on October 8.
...
Ms Donaldson, 31, who moved to Copenhagen at the end of 2001, has spent the past year learning Danish. She will have to convert to Denmark's Lutheran Evangelical Church and give up her Australian passport for the wedding.

Crown Prince Frederik, 35, is Queen Margrethe's eldest son.
He needs the permission of Mommy and Parliament before he can marry? What a wuss!

Can't that door swing the other way though?

Parliament approved it, so there is NOTHING to stop you from marrying me.

What's the bloody point of being a monarch if you have to get Parliament's permission for everything?
