View Full Version : Vista Network Neighborhood

Finally got a Vista machine for testing all our programs and while overall everything works there are many things that bug me like several extra steps to do things that were practically one click on XP. Like just using remote desktop now asks me for login info every time (even though I check to save that info) and warnings that the OS you are going to is older than Vista (is there anything that isn't older than Vista at the moment?)

But there is one thing I need that I can't find a fix for. In the Network Neighborhood it will only list the computer name, not the computer comment. My computers have names on the network and then I always put the user's name in the comment box so when there is a problem I can just look for the user. But, there seems to be no way to have a comment column in Vista. Am I missing something? The only thing unchecked in field chooser is "how discovered". Searches in the knowledge base just turn up unrelated articles.

Thanks.

(Please remember, replies stating "just use *nix or Macs are not helpful.)

After having a bit of a look around it looks as though you simply cannot do this. Quite annoying and a seemingly unnecessary change!

No, this has been a pain for me since I got Vista. In fact, it's my only real gripe about Vista. As far as I can tell there is no way around it (yet), and we're by no means the only people to be complaining about it. There are threads at experts-exchange and at http://forums.microsoft.com/TechNet/ShowPost.aspx?PostID=1007526&SiteID=17 complaining about the same thing.

Whew, I thought it was just me.
