Why do you vote for a candidate?
Selfish reasons: This guy will give ME a tax cut.
Good of the country/city/state: This guy will help the city (even if i have to pay more taxes)
Vote for the winner : Im not tossing my vote away on some loser
Vote for the best candidate: I dont care if Joe X doesnt have a chance Im still voting for him.
Spite: Im voting for X. I dont like X but I just want him to beat Y.
Slave: Must.........vote.........democrat....
Or do you vote at all?

Isn't it mandatory to vote in Aussie Land? I heard that you get fined if you don't exercise your democratic right. Will some Ozlander keep me honest? Great idea if true ...

Huh? Forced voting is not a good idea, it is akin to rape.

Depends on who's running.
As far as the thread topic goes, I vote for the best candidate.

Forced voting seems so wrong. If you dont wanna vote thats your perogative. Theres times I dont vote cause I hate all the candidates.
When you vote forthe lessor of 2 evils, you still vote for evil.

I also think voters are the only ones who should be forced to "pay" taxes. If you dont vote, you dont "pay" taxes.

If you want greater voter turnout, have every voter placed into a lottery. Then pick a name and gove the winning voter $100,000.
Best way to get people to do somthing is to offer prizes!!!

I was going to ask if you had thought this through to the logical conclusion, but I have a feeling the quotation marks around the word "pay" tell me the answer to that one. Nevermind. Carry on.

Actually, yeah I have. :)
If you have something to say, I'd love to hear it.

I vote for whichever third-party candidate has the best chance of getting five percent of the vote. They need to hit that threshold to be eligible for all the benefits given to the two major parties.

I vote for whoever has the best chance for thwarting the right-wing agenda.
I picture some raving lunatic right winger in my head then I joyfully cancel his vote with mine.

I used to vote that way, but the Dumocraps just don't have the spine to stand up to the Repugniklans. Now I vote like Ladewig.

This is kind of what I do. I usually vote AGAINST the religious right as opposed to FOR the other guy.
I would vote for rebublicans like Colin Powell (since he's a democrat anyway), or John McCain (don't take no crap, can put together a whole sentence).

Can we say then that voters are the only ones who can use the police, the fire department, the schools, the roads, the water system, the libraries and the parks? Oh yeah. No Social Security, medicare or unemployment for you either. Also, you don't get to use any of the facilities that are paid for by public bonds (which means Reliant Stadium, Minute Maid Park and the new Toyota Arena are off limits for you.) If you are caught committing a crime, you are sent directly to jail, with no court hearing and you have to pay for it yourself.
But the good news is, you don't have to be called for jury duty!
