Canada’s first Thanksgiving Day was observed on April 15, 1872. And the reason?

Man, the reason is whack. Oh well, it has to do with thankfulness, but not in the sense I thought it had to do with the first Canadian Thanksgiving.

I like the reason for the US first Thanksgiving better. Hmmph.

I'll post the reason in a bit if noone else comes up with it by then.

I believe the first Thanksgiving in 1872 was to celebrate the recovery of King Edward VII from typhoid.

But then there was no Thanksgiving until 1879.

Absolutely right! I didn't even know that until yesterday. What a dorky reason to celebrate a national holiday. Well, at least that's not the reason we have Thanksgiving now. I guess it's just to give thanks for whatever.

I don't know. To this day I'm still very thankful that King Edward VII recovered from typhoid. Aren't you?

You mean the one with the terrible attrition in wives?

Yeah, the one who was infertile, blamed his wives for the infertility (not giving him a son) after giving them whatever he had that caused his infertility (the clap maybe?) and had them beheaded so he could go on to the next young virginal beauty he lusted after to give him a son the others miserably failed to do.
