I-Con claims to be the largest convention of science fiction, fact, and fantasy, on the East Coast.
Official Web Site: www.IconSF.org
Complete list of scheduled guests are here: http://www.iconsf.org/guest.php
(Alexia Anastasio, the actress playing the role of Becky Cherloch, in my attempted film project, is among them. There is also Tim Russ, Billy West, lots of authors, and a bunch of other folks!)
I-Con 27 will take place April 4-6, 2008 at SUNY Stony Brook University, NY.
For anyone who wants to go, I shall attempt to organize some sort of meet-up, for us JREFers.
This conflicts with Massimo Pigliucci's lecture (http://nycskeptics.org/lectures/massimo), in New York City (and, ironically, he happens to teach at SUNY Stony Brook!), but don't worry: I'm sure it will be recorded and available on DVD, eventually.

It would be great fun to meet up at Icon. It will not be easy for me, I do not get to escape work at Icon during the weekend, however, I should have free time after the banquet on Saturday evening. The banquet will be held at the convention hotel and is over about 8 pm. There are various places to hang out in the hotel and Masquerade starts about 10 pm. Masquerade is always a blast and Aerosith should be performing at it once again.

Why not make both?!

Why not make both?!
Tempting. But, it will take out a good, solid day's chunk out of the only full day of I-Con.

How many JREFers were at the last one? I missed it. But, I think there were more than four, right?

I am considering going, but really it is hard to tell if it would be worth it, because there is so little information about what events are going to be happening.

I think the schedule should be coming out, soon. In the meantime, you can browse the information down the "Programming" menu on the web site: http://www.iconsf.org/

I can tell you some of the things that will be going on, but Wowbagger is right the schedule should be up on the site soon.
Friday evening at 10 pm there will be the Battlestar Galactica season premiere
Saturday evening about 8 pm there will be Cabaret with assorted fun performances, it is on the University Campus.
Saturday evening about 10 pm there will be a Masquerade at the Holiday Inn, Ronkonkoma Aerosith should be performing there.
There is an Art show all weekend.
The dealers room should be filled with fun stuff as always. Various of the media guests will be doing signings in the dealers room all weekend.
Films will be running all weekend both old and new as well as some Indy and fan films.
Authors will be speaking individually an on panels. There will be signing by authors too.
There is a lot of other programming, your best bet is to check the online schedule when it is posted. I would expect it to be up by Sunday (Monday at the latest).

I figured I would give this thread a last-minute bump, 'cause it starts tonight!
(I might not arrive until 8 or 9 PM, though.)

Well, that was fun!!!!
There have been rumors spreading, from some attendees, that this was "the worst I-Con ever". But, if that was the case, then I didn't notice! It was odd that none of the rooms could be decorated, and that music bands could only play in a limited number of areas (both by decree of campus security).
But, the actual events were were quite worth the while!
More details to come.

Icon was fun as always, even for those of us who worked the con. Masquerade was a blast. See some pics for evidence.

I probably should have taken more photos at I-Con. I only got three good ones, that I shall post soon: Two with celebrities, and one of the Ghostbusters' van.
I recorded some segments of some of the panels on video tape, in particular the ones my friend Tony was participating in.
