Should this be reclassified as rape?

A rottweiler?

"You're a braver man than I am Gunga Din."

Misquoting Kipling and all that.

Love the thread title.

A dog cannot consent so any sex with a dog would be classified as forceful. However the term rape is, when applied to forced sexual activity, reserved for actions involving a human victim. I think classifying this as an act of animal cruelty would be the correct way to proceed.

A dog could not consent or refuse in human words, but I'm sure it could convey how it feels about it.

Can't understand this. Aren't there any sheep in Kansas?

The article says she is 4. What is the age of consent for dogs in the US?

Seriously: A Rottweiler? I´m no expert, but I´d think that at the age of 4 a dog is full grown? So this guy breaks in a garage, finds a Rottweiler, a sort of dog that can be really dangerous (http://news.sky.com/skynews/article/0,,30100-1297172,00.html), and has sex with it? I´d love to hear a psychologist´s opinion on that one.........

A dog could not consent or refuse in human words, but I'm sure it could convey how it feels about it.Probably. I don't know about dogs, but rape (forced copulation with no discernible indication of consent, and in fact observable resistance) is normal for a number of animal species, as it carries evolutionary benefits for the raping animal, and so has been naturally selected. Genocide and adultery also.

The standard "cruelty" should IMO rightly apply to the person committing this act, not be set from the perspective of the animal victim.

He's lucky she didn't eat his sausage.

I once had a colleague telephone me to ask for advice. Before he would tell me what it was all about he made me swear not to laugh. He was very insistent about this and extracted several solemn promises.

Then he told me the RSPCA were investigating a case where a woman was alleged to have had sex with a German Shepherd Dog, and they wanted to know if there was any disease the dog might have caught from her.

:dl:

I didn't stop literally rofl for about three minutes. He said "but you promised". I said yes, but given the story, all bets were off.

I'm afraid I then enquired whether the dog appeared to have enjoyed himself.

Rolfe.

Remember that Sex is Evil, so we must find some argument, rape, animal cruelty, something, so we can throw this pervert into jail!

This is a very disturbing subject. The vet clinic I used to work for had a case where they suspected this from one of their clients. Turns out, the neighbor was coming in the yard while the owner was at work. He got off with a trespassing fine. After discussing it at length at work, I realized how devastating this would be if it happened to my dog. It would be hard to separate my feelings from the fact that I don't know how this affected my dog. My natural instinct would be to scream "He RAPED my dog". So while it seems funny that a person could do this, I think I would be very upset if I suspected someone was doing this to one of my patients, or worse, my dog.

When the judge asked the defendant 'how low can you get?' he replied 'well your honour I can manage a corgi'.

Well obviously the dog cannot consent but unless it was muzzled and tied it must not have objected too much or the guy would be severely injured. There are philosophers who argue that we should be able to have sex with animals or at least I have seen philosophical dialog about it. I disagree with them.
