Hi,

I have an older machine I want to get photos off of, so uploading to an ISP based web site looks to be the easiest. They are all deathly slow, at least the ones that the Kodak software wants me to use. What is your experience with this.

Short of that i had trouble getting my old Win98 machine to recognise the driver I burned onto a disk. Which is why i was thinking of uploading the pic so I can get them on my new machine.

Of course I could just LAN my two machines but i am not sure how to transfer the data.

Hey David -

If you have a large number of photos, it would probably be easiest to connect the two computers together using ethernet cables and a cheap hub (if you don't already have one). If you have a hub or a wired router, you should be able to simply share your photo folders on the win98 computer, and then connect to the shared folder from your new system and copy the photos down.

If you were to start uploading to an ISP from the one system, and then go out to a store and grab an inexpensive hub and some cables, you might be back before the upload was finished.

Good luck!

Cheers, Michael

I already have a hub, so I will give it a try.

Share the files on the win98. Connect and copy down, I could probably raise a family in the time it would take to upload.

Thanks.

If you didn't have a hub, then a simple cross-over cable can link together 2 PCs for simple file sharing.
