Quote of the Day

Circus Church, Culture War, Emerging Church

“Does any one of the Driscolletes here think that the constant use by Driscoll of smutty language,

scatological speech, graphic sexual descriptions of a woman’s private parts,

using Scripture to humorously justify masturbatory acts, using the name of the Lord as a punch line in jokes,

twisting Scripture to support degrading stories, and demonstrating little or no reverence of the fear of the Lord in public worship… and all this taking place, mind you, while ‘preaching the Word” from the pulpit, is acceptable pastoral practice and demeanor?

(All of this is well documented by Driscoll’s own vodcasts and podcasts and, yes, I have read his two books and virtually listened to everything that he has released on podcast and vodcast the past three years). Aren’t any of you offended by this?”

- Steve Camp, in a comment deleted from Tim Challies’ site for being “sufficiently inflammatory.”

Now if only we could get Tim to treat Steve Camp’s biblical challenges with the same even-handedness he uses with foul-mouthed Mark Driscoll!

Here is Sexpert Driscoll on YouTube.

He’s decided to travel the country on a Song of Solomon tour where he can talk about all things sexual and justify it because, after all, it’s in the Bible.

If you haven’t already, see my post on the Moses Code below.

While the Christian pastors in the land fixate on sex, the enemy is oh, so busy.

In my experience, the less uptight the church is, the more likely they are to interpret the Song of Solomon literally. Black churches, whose congregations really cut loose at church, often interpret it as a guide for "godly" sex.

The Song of Solomon has long been my favorite chapter of the Bible. It's pretty racy and well-done love poetry.

But take into account that as a youth, I was forced to go see this piece of crap movie, "The Bible - In the Beginning (http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0060164/)", and all I can remember is Eve flashing a little bit of tit, so one might rightly ascribe my affection for S of S to my lecherous nature.

I'm not.

He’s decided to travel the country on a Song of Solomon tour where he can talk about all things sexual and justify it because, after all, it’s in the Bible.

Please explain this. My impression is you're Christian. Thus (for you) everything in the bible is holy.

Thus discussing and understanding it is not merely okay, it is mandated to you.

So why would you have a problem with anyone wanting to help others understand any part of the bible, so long as they do so accurately?

Unless he is reading from the book while there are a bunch of lingerie models looking sexy and a giant screen showing porn of some sort I don't think you can sexualise the Song of Solomon.

?
It's fairly sexual in and of itself. I think Christian Death did a pretty good version of this:

Well what I was trying to say is that you can't really sexualise Song of Solomon without going to rather extreme lengths.

I thought you had to go to extreme lengths to de-sexualize the Song of Solomon?

I guess Mark Driscoll and Paul Wirth of that church down in Tampa Florida arent the only pastors obsessed with sex talk

http://www.alittleleaven.com/2008/03/god-love-sex.html

God Love Sex

Why is it that these churches think that doing a sermon series on sex is the way to grow the church?

Its as if 'Sex Sermons' have become the post-modern equivalent of an evangelism Sunday.

this church BTW is in Woodbury Minnesota

How about the evangelical interpretation that when the bible suggests to "know" God or "know" Jesus, the "know" is lexiconically synonymous with the "know" in the Old Testiment that translates to "intercourse." That's right. Unity with the Father, Son, and the Holy Spirit requires spiritual intercourse.
