There was obviously something going on with Inslaw, but Riconosciuto seems to have told so many implausible stories that I wouldn't want to rely on him as a witness.

You're right about it being complicated, too. It's probably best to focus on one core aspect at a time. Example: you asked originally "Was the CIA responsible for the backdoor in Inslaw's PROMIS software?", but how do we know there was a back door? I know various people repeat that, but is there a source other than Riconosciuto?

I'm still trying to figure out what the existence of INSLAW is even supposed to mean to me.

The only referrences i ever see to it are in connection with a shaddy mobster who is trying to sell us a line about not being a mobster, but suggesting some kind of national security ties.

Yes.

He made the rounds looking for a licensed manufacturer of N.F.A. (National Firearms Act) weapons and devices to start a venture on an Indian reservation in California - he made no friends and found no takers.

The guy is a classic con artist, big fast talk, nothing backing it up - the old saying "big hat, but no cattle" pretty much says it all.

My .02 about Casolaro is that he reached the end of his road, realized that he'd been taken for a ride and couldn't face the future.
