If anyone has a copy of or a link to the Laurence Wein’s “Mountain comes to Manhattan” ad, I would appreciate it. It is by far the creepiest of the lot.

Edited for rule 4. If you can send me links, I will insert them.

I like the asbestos ad the best, mostly for the clever slogan. "When life depends on it, you use asbestos."

I went with the "Heaven" one for the unintended multiple entendre. When considering the motives of the hijackers, it is very creepy indeed.

I saw a full page around '97 or '98 showing the towers shimmying titled "Bacardi Rocks".

I tried searching for it on the net, but didn't have any luck. If memory serves me right, I saw it in a Playboy.

Yup. The rest were just sort of an after-the-fact coincidence. That one creeped me out.

I had to go with "Heaven" also. For some reason it sends a shiver down my spine.

Ohhh. Number 1.

No wait, number 4. Especially as you can see the buildings around it.

Yeah, number 4.

I think.

Wasn't there also a creepy pre 9/11 print ad for the video game Command & Conquer: Red Alert?

To be honest, I found none of them creepy. In the case of the Mountain comes to Manhattan one, well, the towers were built to sustain aircraft crashes. The other ones... well, the Mark of a Great Town one I simply don't get. OK, a bunch of blood-soaked buildings, what's that an ad for?

Via Pia came close, though.

It's red paint, not blood. It's a play on the term "to paint the town red", meaning to have a good time.

:jaw-dropp Tonight on Iron Chef Kat Cora was trying to add Maker's Mark to a recipe and the seal wouldn't come off! Clearly Kat is a Whistle blower and the unbreakable seal stood for the Great Seal and thereby showing how to "break the seal" the NWO has on real info about 9/11!!!:jaw-dropp

I have to agree. It brought to mind, for me anyway, the fate of all of the innocents as well.

Had to go with the PIA one, if only because that picture gives me shivers.

The heaven one... eh, it came in at a close second. But the visual impact of the PIA ad was what hit me; if someone had been able to get a picture at that exact angle a split second before the plane hit the first tower, they'd probably get pretty much that exact photo. Eerie foreshadowing or coincidence? You be the judge.

I went with Maker's Mark because you asked for the creepiest, and the blood covering the buildings creeped me out the most.

(I know it's wax; I've had Maker's Mark. Still creepy.)

They are all creepy. What is the point of the GE image? The print's too fine to read the ad.

A word only one. From the New York Pages City guide 2000:

World Trade Center, Tower 2 "323-2340. Two observation decks, on the 107th and 110th floors, indoors and outdoors. The only thing you can't see from here is the future.

It's in Italian – maybe they go for fridges with designs on the door? As for the plane… GE make aircraft engines – is it some sort of self-referential in-joke?

:jaw-droppThis is pretty hard to explain to all as coincidences. Is there a conspiracy involved or is this proof that telepathic or seeing the future does exist?

i will start with conspiracy evidence.motives etc.I put blame onto comic book companys as being part of illuminati secret society and using comic books to comunicate in plain view their plans or secrets.
And Or , a form of predictive programming to the masses.

The truly ironic thing about this thread is that even with 7 years to research this, GIE missed a bunch of which the JREF posters were already aware.

Well, they're not ads, but for me, the creepiest thing has to be the images from the Marvel Comics issue devoted to Meteor, because when I saw the videos from NYC on the morning of 9/11, my mind immediately turned back to these images from my childhood:

Folks - remember Rule 4 of your Membership Agreement. Whilst images can be posted under the idea of fair use just plonking them into a post isn't what "fair use" is about.

Pop culture has always used landmarks as backdrops for climactic sequences; think Cary Grant and Eva Marie Saint scrambling around on Mount Rushmore at the end of North by Northwest, or King Kong climbing the Empire State Building. The original trailer for the first Spiderman film had a group of crooks escaping in a helicopter getting caught in webbing stretched between the Twin Towers, while the plot for a Spiderman TV movie (http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0078308/plotsummary) in the 1978s revolved around an attempt to nuke the WTC.

I have a collection of foreshadowings of 9-11 in pop culture (http://screwloosechange.blogspot.com/2007/02/more-proof-of-troof.html) at SLC.

Shocking. I'll never be able to sleep again.
