Back in 1972, McGovern was the quintessential bleeding heart liberal in the mold of Ted Kennedy, Walter Mondale and Michael Dukakis. Had he expressed these 2008 views then , he might have carried more than one state and D.C.

Although McGovern does get high marks for not using his truly heroic WWII service, unlike JFK's, for political gain. For this, he will always be unique among Presidential candidates.

I had no idea he was alive either, apparently he's 85 now. He does make some good points in that editorial.
