Reddit spamming truthers

Reddit has rapidly become my favorite nerd-news site replacing slashdot and digg. For programming and science news, it's great. The main-page of reddit has always been a little wacky, but still fun.

However, truthers have recently discovered that they can spam reddit and get stuff to the front. I noticed last week some time relatively frequent 9/11 stories making it the front page. They usually vanished quickly, but it's clearly getting worse, some lasting a day or so. Then I noticed most of it was coming from the same guy.

I smelled a conspiracy!

Some guy who goes by GeorgeWashington is spamming the bejesus out of reddit and using 911blogger to get inflated upmods. He apparently has some blog and is a "prominent truther" even though I had never heard of him.

I'm not really sure if I should care. I don't have a reddit account and I was really tempted to sign up just to downvote the most recent spam. But I didn't.

Someone tell me if I should care. Are they going to ruin one of my favorite sites? Seems to me I'll rapidly lose interest in the front page, at least, if the truthers start to take over.

I've actually noticed a tr00ther resurgence over there beyond georgewashingtonblog whoring his twoofy blog. There's a few others that are recent signups who post all the recycled tr00ther memes, there are others who are more or less established that live to go into the comments of the tr00thspam and say things like "another brick in the wall of evidence that 911 was an inside job", "DURR hijackers are alive" and "I won't even place any value on Iraqi lives", the hardcore infowars/prisonplanet/truthnews posters have suspended complaining about "the new Red Dit" censoring their postings to post as many "stories" as they can... and worst of it all, that forgetu kid who repeatedly posts vote up "polls" designed to get upvotes over there (vote up if you want Bush & Cheney in prison, legalize marijuana, fire Bill O'Reilly, stuff like that) so that more people can see the payload... some Alex Jones drivel, so that he can then go to AJ's myspace and leave a comment about this great thing that he's done to "get the word out".

You should care; they are ruining it with all that nonsense. I really felt that way when that forgetu kid snuck that AJ BS onto the front page; not even five months after the same kid pulled the same trick to get the website for AJ's most recent "documentary" onto the front page, reddit fell for it again, and in greater numbers. I did hear from a pro-sanity anti-"truther" who has been over there longer than I have that a couple of years ago, right around the time the movement peaked I think, reddit was inundated with teh twoof and it tapered off. I get the feeling that some of them were responsible for the months of twoof cult leader-approved spamming and flashmobbing for Ron Paul, and after that produced little in the way of real-world success they decided to re-dedicate themselves to spamming for teh twoof.

I've noticed that reddit, while generally a good source of news and interesting material, tends to get dominated by a single pet issue that resonates and takes over the front page, whether it be twoof, Ron Paul, impeachment, police abusing authority, atheism, Anonymous and like such as. But the only way to enforce its functionality as a useful news site is to stand and downvote the 9/11 twoof blogwhoring and recycling projects. Twoofers have dedicated themselves to forcing their shaky viewpoints and so-called evidence on as many people as possible, so there should be an opposition force to that... without that, they can just do whatever they want because not enough people are actively rejecting it.
