In reality, Spitzer has raised the ire of the truthers for refusing to 'investigate' 9-11. There was also some issue about Spitzer ‘blocking’ one of his aids from testifying before the 9-11 Commission when he was Attorney General.

What's the real issue here? In November of 2004, an independent inquiry into the events of 9/11 entitled "Citizens' Complaint & Petition" was submitted to Eliot Spitzer's office... However, this has been met with a deafening silence. No action was ever taken.

How does this silence him? If you want to silence someone, you threaten to release the scandal if they don't keep quiet. Once the scandal has become public there's no longer an incentive to remain silent. Duh.
