It's "Spring Break" time, even in twoofer-ville, and it appears that the author of the latest CT book to get the black-shirt crowd all excited will be making an appearance at a book signing in Boca Raton (http://www.bocaratonnews.com/news/local/130-steve-alten-speaks-about-doomsday.php)this week:

Steve Alten speaks about doomsday

Steve Alten dreams big.

In his fantastic 1997 first novel “Meg,” he imagined a gigantic prehistoric Megalodon shark that surfaced from the depths of the Pacific Ocean to terrorize mankind.

In Domain (2001) he visualized the cruel, violent human sacrifices of ancient Mayans.

In “The Loch” he explored the possibility of a real Loch Ness monster.

Now Alten is deadly serious in “The Shell Game,” a thriller that tackles the large and looming issues of the end of oil, the next 9/11 terrorist attacks and ultimately the end of civilization. Alten will speak and sign his book at 7 p.m.

Wednesday at Murder on the Beach Bookstore, 273 NE Second Ave., Delray Beach.

Even though "Shell Game" is a work of fiction (sound familiar?) Alten shows unmistakeable twoofiness in his promotion of it within the article:

“A lot of 9/11 organizations are split by theories based on misinformation,” Alten declares. “Those who discredit official government investigations are smeared as wackos.”

Alten learned how a nuclear bomb could be made with readily available materials. He has been watching nervously the situation in Iran, and the very real possibility the USA could launch a preemptive strike on the pretext of nuclear warheads in Iran.

“This is real life and death stuff,” Alten warns. “The greatest crime in U.S. history was never thoroughly investigated, and the people behind those shortcomings were promoted.”

If anyone is headed to Boca Raton this week, a visit to the book signing might be entertaining. A great chance to soak up a little sun, chase a few bikinis, put away several margaritas and see just how few and far between the twoofers are...even in nice weather. Buy and read the book at your own risk, however...brain damage is harder to get over than a hangover....:p

The Publisher's Weekly review of the book from last November:

Even die-hard conspiracy theorists will be dubious about the sinister government-led plots that form the shaky foundation of this political thriller. Alten, best-known for his gory novels featuring giant prehistoric sharks (Meg; The Trench), goes well beyond the already far-fetched idea that the Bush administration let the devastating 9/11 attacks happen to further the neoconservative agenda of reshaping the Middle East. In 2012, with “centrist conservative” David McKuin in the White House, the federal government plots to detonate a nuclear bomb in a U.S. city and blame Iran as a cover to take out that country's radical leadership. Standing in the plotters' way is Ace Futrell, an energy expert whose murdered wife was possibly targeted by U.S. intelligence. An awkward mix of actual and fictional political figures (Hillary Clinton is still in the Senate in 2012, having lost the 2008 election to McKuin) doesn't make this paranoid and superficial book more plausible. Actually, McKuin's plan to detonate a nuclear bomb is far more succinct and plausible than anything CTers think happened on 9/11.

Ace Futrell.

Ace Futrell?

REally?

Ace Futrell?

I think that name alone should sum up this guy's writing ability.

At least "Hiro Protagonist" was ironic.....
