Gore and a group of investors are in talks to buy Newsworld International, a cable news channel owned by Vivendi Universal, for $70 million, the source said.
...
f Gore succeeds, Newsworld International could compete with Fox News Channel, which has unseated CNN as the most widely watched news channel in the United States with a formula of brash talk show formats mixed with hard news.

Fox is the most popular news in the country? That's scary.

Most popular news channel, there is a difference. All it means is that people who have nothing better to do than watch 24hr News Channels prefer Fox to CNN or MSNBC.

Yeah, I think it's because the trVth hurts, and it's harder to watch.

Oh. So that doesn't count the news programs of networks like CBS, PBS, etc?

This is a dumb idea.

Why do we need the "liberal news?"

(Then again, I think Fox's conservative news is a dumb idea too.)

The problem is, these conservative talk-show hosts who do nothing but yell "shut up! Shut UP! SHUT UP!!!" are by default going to get better ratings than anything the liberals can put on.

Why? Liberals are embarrased by "SHUT UP SHUT UP SHUT UP", and they don't find that entertaining. Liberals LIKE the idea/self-delusion that they can see both sides of the argument. Conservatives just want to win.

Mark my words... this channel will tank, and it'll be jumped on by the conservative media that it tanked because nobody is buying the liberal ideas.

The truth is, slobs with nothing better to do but watch TV all day and collect welfare checks are usually Conservative.

Howard Stern should be the model of the kind of personage that would be on a sucessful anti-conservative channel, or Bill Mahr. But they aren't strictly by-the-platform lefties.

Instead we'll probably get Donahue!

You mean after all these years of the Democrats blasting the Republicans for wanting to destroy the social safety net by cutting welfare and Medicaid, all those welfare recipients are still voting Republican?

I had no idea.

(How come there are two different "irony meter" icons, but when I need one for sarcasm, I come up empty-handed?)

There is one conservative channel, and that's FOX. If you want to go after the FOX market, you need to start another conservative network.

By making a liberal network, all you are doing is competing with the 3 losing networks and CNN. (I won't even count MSNBC.... a pathetic channel if ever.)

WHOA, just a second there. What you meant to say was Fox NEWS. FOX itself, with shows like The Simpsons, Married With Children, etc., looks pretty liberal to me.

Watch it, I've got a friend who works for MSNBC (mind you, I never watch the channel).
I watch CNN Headline News. I loathe FOX news, for a reason I really can't put my finger on. They just seem to embody everything I hate.

Maybe it's the fact they are "fair and balanced" that you object to.
:D

Fair and Balanced.

What should the slogan for Liberal News Network be called?

I nominate:

LNN: The Network that Broadcast only the Truth.

America's most patriotic news source.

News the Conservative Media Giants don't want you to know.

Honest News, without the spin.

Mom, Apple Pie and the Flag watch LNN.

We Report -- We Don't Take Sides.

Good point. Still, when they come out with blatant trash like "Tramp Island" and "What Whore Wants to Marry a Rich Assh-le?", I have to wonder if they are exhibiting degenerates to mock them, or promoting them as if they are normal people. Maybe both.

Just because conservatives like to moralize doesn't mean they have higher morals as a group or as a choice of entertainment.

Look at the violence that conservatives lambaste in the media, and yet devour in the form of pro-wrestling, Arnie-movies, etc.

Arnie groping women, Limbaugh popping pills, Bennett rolling snake-eyes, Swaggart and his riding crop...

Yep, sounds like Fox to me!

Low or loose morals aren't just for liberals anymore!

I hope you caught the clever internal joke in that sentence.
