By the way, what is the "Adolf Hitler Anthem"? Do they mean, "Deutchland Uber Alles"? The "Horst Wessel" song?

Maybe it was the one that starts "Hitler! He only had one ball...."

The band will still perform the musical composition but it will only have the United States flag on display, he said.
That's better. If there's one thing I can't stand, it's a school band that isn't up to date on their facist regimes!

I would be willing to bet that the population of Paris, Texas, would not know the Horst Wessel Song or Deutchland Uber Alles if it dropped on them from a great height. The idiot was the one who waved the flag...

There is something to be said about the Wagnerian sense of doom waiting over the band as they start to play.
Oh, well I am suprised that they didn't all stand up and cheer, must be one of the more liberal parts of texas. :)Of course I come from a part of the country where the Bundespartei was just huge. And the KKK and AN are rampant.

Well, since I actually live a few miles from where this even happened and read about it in the Dallas Morning News I'll comment on where the event happened.
Hillcrest High School is in an area of town with a large Jewish population. Without getting into the whole Holocaust industry and oversenativity debate, it was the night Rosh Hoshanna started, but if you're going to do a WWII presentation, you can't pretent Nazi Germany didn't exist.
This whole thing would have been resolved with a little more communication. Zep is write that people probably wouldn't recognize the German or Japanese tunes (there was no mention is a Soviet flag was waved or song played) so I can understand why the flags would be used to identify for the crowd the particular significance of the music being played.
The article mentioned that the full program would be performed at the state band competition later this year.

Indeed so, which is why it was so idiotic. I'm quite certain that those who did this had no INTENTION to insult jews; the stupidity is in not realizing that something like that WOULD be insulting.
