SARS first came upon the world consciousness, what, less than a year ago?

Canadian SARS researchers say they have "turned a corner" in the hunt for a vaccine, creating two potential vaccines that could begin human trials in less than a year.
This report is very preliminary; probably too preliminary:
Animal tests will begin "shortly."
They haven't tested it on animals, let alone people yet.
