When I read this story I was just appalled...

Girl's Death Probed After Parents Rely on Prayer (http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/23832053/)

From what the article says, the poor kid was sick for over a month before she died. And it was other relatives who called the authorities.

Wow... what more evidence do some people need that intercessory prayer just doesn't work? Pray if you want, but take the damn meds as well!

I've read stories like this before, and every time they just sicken me.

Agreed MattusMaximus. And btw, this happened in my home town so if you want updates let me know.

Your home town?! Good grief, I can only imagine that there is quite the uproar in your town about this mess. Were the parents members of a particular religious group? Wow...

You can fix a lot of things with modern medicine (including the decedents condition), but you can't fix stupid.

I.M.O. the police chief is wrong. As other posters have already pointed out, it isn't that a tenet of the girl's parents' religion kept them from giving her health care. It's just that they decided against common sense to only pray for her, rather than to both pray and seek medical care.

On top of that, they are not part of an organized religion.
