One of our local university football players got critically hurt while playing against another team. He was critical. Comatose. Now he is upgraded to serious.

You have to be sorry for him. There are many people concerned for his well-being.

This story has made local radio, tv, and the newspaper. The radio is having a big-card signing going on at the University today. Donations are being handled elsewhere. The story has been on the front page of the newspaper for 3 days now!

If a similar injury had happened to me, while working on a roof, Nobody but my family, relatives, a few friends and those I am associated with at work would know about it. There would be no 'story'. No 15 minutes of fame for ME!

It's as if you are worthless as a person, if you aren't in the spotlight somehow.

I don't begrudge the guy anything. BUUUUUT..it's too bad that we all can't be made so much out of.

It shows me that society puts at a premium, what entertainment means to us. Whenever someone 'pleases' a lot of people, rather than just pleasing one individaul (like pleasing the owner of the house that you just roofed), they are going to be rewarded with a lot more attention...and likely money as well...in times like these.
