Are the "Debunkers" at JREF prepared to handle the onslaught that is the Truth Week of Truth sponsored by the Truth Movement in Conjunction with Truth?

http://www.weekoftruth.org/?

Now you may think it is a cynical attempt to bolster sales for a book, and get Steve Alten some face time on TV.

But you would be WRONG! Well, not "wrong." What is that word that sounds like wrong but means the exact opposite? Oh yeah, absolutely freaking RIGHT.

And look at the cast of ne'er-do-wells that got together to promote the book:

"Dr. Steven Jones; Janice Matthews (911Truth.org); David Ray Griffin; Kevin Ryan; Dr. Robert Bowman; Rob Balsamo (Pilots for 9/11 Truth); Carol Brouillet; Mike Berger; David Kubiak; Kevin Barrett; Michael Wolsey; Peter Dale Scott; Bill Douglas."

Some choice quotes:

Kevin Ryan: "This Book Really Holds Water!"

Kevin Barrett: "Even the Shills we send to be hanged would enjoy this Book!"

DRG: "[DEBUNKED]"

Dr. Jones: "Purple Monkey underpants... wooo, woooo!! Thermite-y style subtstance."

But how will they get the word out, now that they can't put their web site links on their home made Ron Paul cardboard signs? I see those rotting on the side of the road everyday.

Steve Alten will donate $5,000 each week the “The Shell Game” reaches the top 10 of the NY Times best seller list, to the Fealgood Foundation (http://www.fealgoodfoundation.com/):

I took a look at Amazon (http://www.amazon.com/Shell-Game-Steve-Alten/dp/1599550946/ref=pd_bbs_sr_1?ie=UTF8&s=books&qid=1207252675&sr=8-1) to find out what they say about it. Here's Publisher's Weekly:

Even die-hard conspiracy theorists will be dubious about the sinister government-led plots that form the shaky foundation of this political thriller. Alten, best-known for his gory novels featuring giant prehistoric sharks (Meg; The Trench), goes well beyond the already far-fetched idea that the Bush administration let the devastating 9/11 attacks happen to further the neoconservative agenda of reshaping the Middle East. In 2012, with centrist conservative David McKuin in the White House, the federal government plots to detonate a nuclear bomb in a U.S. city and blame Iran as a cover to take out that country's radical leadership. Standing in the plotters' way is Ace Futrell, an energy expert whose murdered wife was possibly targeted by U.S. intelligence. An awkward mix of actual and fictional political figures (Hillary Clinton is still in the Senate in 2012, having lost the 2008 election to McKuin) doesn't make this paranoid and superficial book more plausible.

Ahem. Maybe the Twoof movement would've been better off staying with Margaret Cho and Jesse Ventura?

Did you read any of the bits of that page that look like excerpts form the book? I'm not sure if they are excerpts, as the page is very badly laid out, but if they are representative of the quality of the rest of the book, it wouldn't be hard to beat it.

And I've said this before, but, "Ace Futrell". The name of the "good guy" says pretty much everything you need to know about the quality of this book.

Is that anything like Hate Week (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hate_week)?

Horatius

Okay, I'll probably burn in hell for this, and after all this Googling, cutting and pasting, I'm not sure if this is even funny anymore, but I've done too much work over my lunch hour to let this go to waste, so I'm going to subject you to it anyways, and you can all hate me for it later.

Here is a powerful new historical-fiction edu-tainment novel, “The Shill Game,” that exposes the in-fighting and manipulation that COINTELPRO has caused to derail the most important movement since the American Revolution. In “The Shill Game”, intrepid reporter and Iron Man triathlete Biff Freedon conducts a whirl-wind investigation of the major players, exposes the frauds, and indicts the conspirators who were really behind the 9/11 attacks. An odyssey that takes him from his Wichita newsroom to the White House, this tale is one that will resonate for ages in the annals of American Literature.

(page 133)
Peggy Sue shrugs. “Okay, Biff, if that’s true, how did Avery, a film school reject, produce the most popular 9/11 film ever? By your logic, Alex Jones should have swept up the entire Truth Movement, just like he did the Patriot Movement. Didn’t happen. Know why? Short attention spans and a driving techno beat.”

“What? ‘The Beats of Loose Change’ and that video of him rapping?”

“They’re part of it, yes. You begin with the delusion, something you can sell, it only matters that it’s not true. There were two major Truther challengers, “In Plane Sight”, and “Press For Truth”. Rowe and his merry men fuelled their attacks like the Reagan Administration fuelled the Iranians against the Iraqis in the 1980s. Deride and conquer – a brilliant play – and the blood between the two camps grew so bad that the there was no way the Truthers could heal the rift. The machine creates the message, the money fuels the media, and the media pounds it home everyday until your mind subconsciously associates message with Truth. It’s the Pavlov dog syndrome, ring the same bell over and over and the dissatisfied teenagers eventually salivate.”

Biff shakes his head. “So substance means nothing.”

“Correct. A complete lack of substance, however, means everything. Take the advice of Dr. Griffen. Griffen’s primary mantra, besides religion, was that no one should ever state a positive theory of what happened on 9/11; that would leave them open to attack. One should simply continue to point out flaws in the “Official Stoyy”. That same message was repeated, over and over in book after book, until even Creationists believed it. Here we are, ten years later, and we just passed a million copies in sales! Millions in cash were redirected to conspiracy theorist’s pockets, Alex Jones among them. Who’s accountable? Maintain confusion and the answer is no one. As long as you control your Internet forum, even the worst debunkings get washed clean through an Admin deletion.”

“And that’s all there is to it? Money, message, and attacking your opponent . . . that’s how you make the big bucks?”

(page 54)
“That’s right, a massive buy-in. To most of you it will appear gradually, as gradual as climbing into a giant pot of cold water and turning on the burner. At first you won’t know anything is happening, then slowly. . .slowly and painfully, like a YouTube clip of subtitles that linger long enough for semi-literates to read them, the realization will kick in that there’s no escaping this obsession, that the chaos that’s in your mind won’t be going away, that the arguments left on your hard drive and in your DVDs won’t last very long, that you and your “crew” are going to have to get real jobs.

Or make up some new evidence.

Or be debunked by an analysis whose impact you’ll never understand. Or succumb to a ennui you’ll never feel. You will be as helpless as the victims of the tsunami that struck Indonesia the day after Christmas, 2004 (which was caused by the US, by the way), or the lost souls of Hurricane Katrina, abandoned without food or water in flooded New Orleans. . . only this time there will be no discomfort, because you’ll still be sitting in your mother’s basement, watching TV. Shooting aliens on your Xbox won’t help. Call me a liar, repute my warnings, curse my existence—it won’t change a thing. The brakes are shot and the Truth Movement is being diverted. . . instructed to gaze in the rearview mirror as we drive ourselves off a cliff. . . only you’re too busy play-acting your fantasy to see what’s happening.

Open your eyes! Read the signposts! It’s already begun, the opening moves played out as if upon a great political chessboard:

The “Pull it” crisis – the first taste of things to come.
The fifth anniversary of 9/11 protests – moves within moves, corruption behind smiles.
LCF and PfT– a fostered war designed to temporarily control the center of the board.
Ace Baker’s invasion of JREF -- the manipulation of a pawn.
The rise of the denial of Islamic fascism - a cancer spreading throughout the liberal world.
Secret forum meetings - our path of self-destruction, mortared in self-obsession.
The manipulation behind 9/11 Truth, the sacrifice of an ignoble knave.
The defection of Russel Pickering. The deceit of CIT--
–the tentacles of Alex Jones.

Attempted derails. Rigged Internet polls. Bad analogies lifted straight out of a George Orwell novel. The board’s still in play, but the outcome was decided long ago, and soon the final piece shall fall, but not the way the self-appointed truthseekers would ever have predicted. When the house of cards collapses everybody loses, from the filmmakers to the dead-enders, and the geek shall indeed inherit the Earth, at least what’s left of it.

(page 77)
All Conspiracy Theorists lie. Kageki lied about Pearl Harbor. David Carmichael lied about Israeli jets shooting at the USS Liberty. Bart Siebrel lied about the Moon landings. Alex Jones lied about FEMA Death Camps. I suppose even Kevin Barrett lied (he probably never even went to Morroco).

But it was the lies coming from the Woods-Fetzer Scholars For Truth after the events of September 11th, 2001 that led us to the insanity of Space Beams and to a crossroads in Western civilization that will affect you and your customers and a few more innocent people.
Did the Truther community know JREF’s attack was coming?

Yes.

Did we try to stop them?

Yes, but we were unable to do so. PfT field agents who were close to exposing the plot were repeatedly and purposefully debunked by a single skeptic – Ryan Mackey– who would later receive a accolades for his actions. Then, on the day of the attacks, the LCF admins, under IVXX’s personal direction, scheduled and conducted five separate server upgrades that purposely slowed down the forum while deliberately causing lag that ate a lot of posts. Professional Paranoid who normally dismissed evidence within minutes were delayed an unfathomable 80 minutes, most never even entered the fray. While dedicated pilots for truth and teenagers desperately tried to determine what was real from what was made up, a Prison Planet administrator “accidentally” updated their postings to hide the fact that they had promoted proven errors as established facts.

Those are facts. . .but only the tip of a dirty iceberg.

Of course, none of that information was ever acknowledged by the 9/11 Truthers around the world. They just moved the goal posts to a discussion of how Wall Street investors allegedly knew –– a day before the attacks domestic and foreign investors placed an unprecedented number of “put calls” (a leveraged bet a stock will drop) on the airlines and companies that would suffer devastating losses, in some cases over 90 times higher than normal trading. They then claimed that these financial transactions netted upwards of $15 billion in insider trading, even though that was a load o bollocks.

One voice of opposition who refused to be intimidated - Russel Pickering- would conveniently stop posting anywhere on 9/11 topics.

(Page 355)
And newly sworn-in President of the United States Biff Freedon ascended the podium to give his commencement address.

“And if America is to become a great nation again, this must become true. So let Freedon reign from the prodigious hilltops of New Hampshire. Let Freedon reign from the mighty mountains of New York. Let Freedon reign from the heightening Alleghenies of Pennsylvania. Let Freedon reign from the snow-capped Rockies of Colorado. Let Freedon reign from the curvaceous peaks of California.

But not only that. Let Freedon reign from Stone Mountain of Georgia. Let Freedon reign from Lookout Mountain of Tennessee. Let Freedon reign from every hill and molehill of Mississippi, from every mountainside, let Freedon reign!”

Epilogue: Two days later, President Biff Freedon was assassinated by outraged supporters of the late Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. As of this printing, 283 separate theories presupposing government collusion in his murder have arisen on the Internet.

And then Biff Freedon spoke up, his eyes glistening with emotion, "If we're to find out the real truth of the matter, one of us will have to make the ultimate sacrifice."

"You mean?"

"Yes. One of us will have to get close enough to Judy Wood to find out how crazy she really is. One of us will have to get her emotionally involved enough to bare her soul. One of us will have to .... sleep with her."

Myriad stood up. "I'll do it," he said quietly.

Biff Freedon looked at his friend, Jack Power with skepticism. "A false flag nuclear attack? That sounds like something out of a Tom Clancy novel, and not a good one at that."

Jack whipped his finger up to point it into Freedon's face. "That's exactly it! They publish bad novels with improbable plots, so that when it all comes true, nobody will believe it! How does it feel to know you've been so well programmed by the ruling elite?"

Freedon paused.

"I'm also something else", Mackey said, with a hint of gravel in his voice.

"What's that?"

There was a hiss of gas. "An awesome shot with a paint ball gun!"

Freedon spun back to face Ryan, but he was a split second too late. A burst of highly accelerated plastic balls filled with paint slammed into his groin, immobilizing him with pain. He dropped to the ground, writhing in agony.

Ryan stood above him, grinning. "You just don't get it, do you? The NWO doesn't just want to win, it wants to gloat over you while it does it!"

What is that book really about?

I tried to read it (http://screwloosechange.blogspot.com/2008/02/shell-game-battles.html), but it's really tough slogging. The book opens with a congressional hearing, with lots of long speechifying on Peak Oil. The Troofer connection is that some of the chapters have introductions including quotes from Michael Ruppert and DRG. I gather that the climax is a US city getting nuked by the "neocons" in order to drag us into a war with Iran, but I didn't get anywhere near that far into the novel.
