What are the films which inspire the 'truthers'?
My thoughts are:
Enemy of the state : For the all encompassing, satellite driven privacy paranoia
The Matrix : Of course. 'nuff said
Fight Club : The demo sequence at the end must give 'em a thrill
Close Encounters of the Third Kind : You just gotta love the brainstorming scene when they think up a scenario to get people away from Devil Tower
Manchurian Candidate : MKULTRA. 'nuff said
JFK : Garrison's fantasies writ large with a mountain of cocaine

Well the Die Hard movies were the basis of much of the first 2 Loose Change movies.

V for Vendetta was big with them, but not so much now I guess.

Currently, I would say Jericho.
I also think that that infamous pilot episode of Lone Gunmen have them shopping for tinfoil. And of course X-files.

'The Abyss' has to be a contender also...
Virgil (http://www.imdb.com/name/nm0000438/): Hippy, you think everything is a conspiracy.
Alan "Hippy" Carnes (http://www.imdb.com/name/nm0333804/): Everything is.

Well on that note, let's not forget the classic Dan Akroyd character from Sneakers:
Mother: They've even got photos of the guy leaving the embassy, through the back service entrance. Hey, Crease, you on?
Donald Crease: Yeah, I'm on.
Mother: Were you still in C.I.A. in '72?
Donald Crease: Yeah, why?
Mother: Did you know the Deputy Director of Planning was down in Managua, Nicaragua the day before the earthquake?
Donald Crease: Now what are you saying, the C.I.A. caused the Managua earthquake?
Mother: Well, I can't prove it, but...
Crease: Now what are you saying, the NSA killed Kennedy?
Mother: No, they shot him but they didn't kill him. He's still alive.
[Mother (the conspiracy theorist) is reading a tabloid]
Mother: Cattle mutilations are up.
Donald Crease: Don't.
Mother: Sorry.

Ofcourse, in 'The Abyss' Lyndsey has "o'neil" on her dive suit, an obvious reference to John O'Neill and the wtc towers......
...it's enough to give an adolescent conspiracy fantasist chills

Shooter.
Near the beginning, when the main character logs on to his computer to "see what lies they are trying to feed us today", with a copy of the 9/11 Commission Report next to him.
Still a good movie, IMHO.

Metal Gear Solid 2, yes I know its not a movie but this game has to be a top conspiracy-file.

The Domino Killings with Gene Hackman, I think it had a slightly different title over the pond.

Hey, "V for Vendetta" is a good flick. Please don't drag it through the muck by hooking it up with the "truthers."

Well if we're going for computer games, how about deus ex, it seems to contain all of the mainstream CTs (of its time)m other than the anti semitic oens, and abloody good game it is too.

It was a fine film. The thing is, and this is the point of this entire thread, Truthy types tend to think that the real world works like the movies. They don't suspend disbelief when they walk into the theater. They saw it on the screen, so it must be true.
In fact, you can extend this to YouTube and Google Video. Truthers are very visually-oriented, and tend to believe everything they see. Add that tendency to (sometimes warranted) distrust of the government and you have a prime candidate to go Twoofy.
The only cure is liberal doses of training in critical thinking. And it has to be caught early. Look at the Pentagon threads at LCF. You don't want your kids ending up like that.

Alan Moore hated it.

Alan Moore hated it.
AFAIK Alan Moore didn't even watch it. He refused to have anything to do with the films of his work after League of Extraordinary Gentleman, and how he may have been stitched up over the script.

You could be right - most of the comments I've read of his are based on the screenplay for V for Vendetta rather than the finished film.
Also, to be fair, as far as I can tell Alan Moore pretty much hates cinema full stop... ;) I believe he implied it was "illiterate".

Toy Story I and II.
90% of truthers were pre-adolescents when they came out, so there is that nostalgia factor.
Plus, Woody and Buzz represent the polarization between truthers and debunkers.

It's not so much that they don't suspend disbelief when they walk into the theater, it's that they don't re-engage it when they walk out.

I'm surprised that no one has mentioned Hangar 18 (wikipedia (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hangar_18_%28film%29)) (IMDB (http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0080836/)), this was a film created to exploit the UFO conspiracy movement.
It was dishonestly promoted as a documentary (see the IMDB account) and includes the use of a remote controlled aircraft full of explosives (hmm... where have I heard about that recently...) to destroy a building.

Well actually Alan Moore was never a fan of adaptations of his work, but that isn't why he developed a hatred for studios making films off his work.
What happened was after League of Extrodinary Gentleman came out someone sued the studio claiming they had ripped off a script he had marketed to them. It was obvious that Moore's work was older and not inspired by the guy suing; but the studio settled the suit out of court. Alan Moore was rightfully p***d, because the whole thing made him appear as a thief to those who didn't know League was a 90's comic.
So since Alan Moore refuses to have anything to do with movies. Although I read Alan Moore did mention that he hated the adaptation of V for Vendetta, because they made the story about Left vs. Right politics which V as the hero of the story; which was not what his Graphic Novel was about.
