In the aftermath of Obama's "Bitter" comment (how quickly these gaffes become brands), Hillary Clinton said this (http://www.hillaryclinton.com/news/release/view/?id=7047) on her website:
The people of faith I know don't "cling to" religion because they're bitter. People embrace faith not because they are materially poor, but because they are spiritually rich. Our faith is the faith of our parents and our grandparents. It is a fundamental expression of who we are and what we believe.
Sooooo.....people who don't embrace faith are......not spiritually rich?
Think that one will create as much as a mousefart of turmoil in the political landscape?

No, it will not because (A) Obama's group will not likely stoop to it, and (B) Atheists and others who do not cling to faith are likely in a minority in the country, and will not voice the discontent needed to make the comment an issue.
Personally, I am sick of the parsing of every single little comment each candidate makes in this thing.

A little bit more respect, TAM. What the rest of the world considers as being BS, Americans seriously call "election process". :)

There certainly is a remarkable lack of focus on the politics...

well I guess there is a reason that the word "politics" has come to mean a lot more than simply the democratic way of electing leaders.

A little bit more insight, Oliver. What the rest of the world would consider as being utter nonsense, you seriously call "obvious".

Wouldn't that be a component of the faithless?
So, what's the beef?
Atheists and others who do not cling to faith are likely in a minority in the country...
Likely?!?!? You mean there's some doubt??

Ever heard Mozart's Ave Verum Corpus?
I feel spiritually uplifted when I hear that.

Haven't taken a poll, so I state it as likely...;)

Well, no. Mostly they don't believe in spirits.

So God has finally found your weakness. :)

No poll needed. Americans overwhelmingly believe in God. It's about 90%.

You don't need a poll, but you "know" 90% of Americans believe in god?
How?

Well, no. Mostly they don't believe in spirits.
I have a cabinet in my kitchen that says otherwise.

Depends on how much booze they have in the cabinet.

I am pretty sure New Ager is right. IIRC, there are many polls already which back up his figure, roughly, of 90%.

I think the faithless can be safely bashed in American politics with little negative consequence (and probably a bigger positive consequence) at the ballot box. Just as it is safe or positve to bash communists.
