View Full Version : Could someone please bring ... to TAM?

Fitter
13th April 2008, 06:49 PM
Last year there was a thread where TAM attendees could ask other attendees to bring things that the asker could not easily get their hands on. For example a certain Bad Astronomer asked if any Australians could bring him Minties. This weekend while looking for candy bars for 2 forum members I thought we could use a similar thread for TAM 6. So does anyone need anything Canadian that you can't get at home?

I'll smuggle you in some Robax Platinum (http://www.backrelief.ca/). The one time I needed that when travelling in the States, I found out it wasn't an over-the-counter drug there. I don't think they had it at all, in fact.

That right, the War on Stupid Kids Getting High made me suffer with back pain for a week. Punks*.

I'm happy to bring British stuff as usual.

Marmite, Victory Vs, a good sense of humour.

I've already agreed in another post to bring supplies from Oz.
BA has his Minties on the way, preempting him asking.
TimTams, Twisties, Life Savers (not that sort you sick puppy!), more TimTams, possibly Balfours Frog Cakes but this will take special packing and I'll need a good offer, Australian TicTacs (weird flavors), Freddo Frogs etc. :eye-poppi

Also if someone can brew some Coopers Beer and they live between LAX and Vegas I'm sure we can come to some agreement, as in I'll send over the brew can, pick you and the beer up and drive you to Vegas. My luggage and booze restrictions prevent me from bringing my own slab for Saturday night..

I can bring the current TAM Chocolate Challenge champion chocolate, local to San Diego, and sweet and spicy at the same time. (Sort of like me.)

Or anything else, just like last year.

Danish cuisine has some pretty nasty stuff (usually in various stages of rotting decay), but nothing compares to Marmite. Nothing.

That stuff should be filed as a "bacteriological weapon". Against humankind.

But you can bring some Monty Python DVDs....

I had friends bring me Minties, so that I could in turn take them to BA.

I have thus far resisted the temptation to open the package.

My daughter practically lives on those. It would make my life a lot easier if they would just declare them as a food group, along with ketchup and Zoodles.

Health care?

Well, here in Australia, we have plenty of pretty good free health care, which i'd love to bring and share with all you Americans. The problem is, I can only bring enough for myself :( You're welcome to visit and try it out anytime you like though!

Look for a store called BevMo. They sell it there, or you could go to Outback Steakhouse.
The closest BevMo to LAX is here (http://maps.google.com/maps?f=d&hl=en&geocode=&saddr=LAX&daddr=21301+Hawthorne+Blvd.+Torrance+CA+to:Las+Veg as+NV&mra=pi&mrcr=1&jsv=107&sll=33.89059,-118.37532&sspn=0.160451,0.277405&ie=UTF8&z=8)

Also given you directions to Vegas from the Bevmo.

Oh my holy sky fairy! It's true! 5 flavors of Coopers beer. And it's the same price as here! How does that work?? And extra strong vintage 7.5% beer. Died and gone to heaven...
My month in California in summer has just gone from great to really great. And I haven't even sussed out the roller coaster rides yet.

I'm a native Philadelphian (gone for over 10 years now). I'd gladly take you up on your offer if it were feasible.

The ones that are sold just about ANYWHERE are of laughably ersatz quality (I don't use words like "ersatz" at Geno's, as they might think I'm not speaking English).

I plan on getting to Vegas on Monday or Tuesday. Just gotta keep the cheesesteak warm and fresh for a minimum of 3 days.

DEAL!

Hmm. I'm not sure about catupiry... I'm afraid it would be illegal to take abroad, as it's cheese. But any industrialized product is fine. Fandango cheese or ham?? My favorite is cheese.

If I find Skiny, the original from which Fandango is just a copy, I'll take it also. But I can't find Skiny in the market anymore! But if I do find it, I'll buy a dozen for myself and one for you...

No can(!) do:

Meats, Livestock, and Poultry
The regulations governing meat and meat products are very strict. You may not import fresh, dried, or canned meats or meat products from most foreign countries into the United States. Also, you may not import food products that have been prepared with meat.

The regulations on importing meat and meat products change frequently because they are based on disease outbreaks in different areas of the world. APHIS, which regulates meats and meat products as well as fruits and vegetables, invites you to contact them for more information on importing meats. Yes, I was afraid the cheese wouldn't be allowed in... as for the Fandangos, my wife prefers ham, so that is our choice :-) (wasn't there at some point a "mixed" bag?)

And what version of Tim Tam would you like? See http://www.arnotts.com.au/products/TimTam.aspx
I'm partial to the dark chocolate one, but that's just me. The new "weirder" versions are not that good (except for the "chocorange" one, but I not sure that's still available).

I need paperback copies of the book "One Pair of Hands" (though I'd love a hardback edition, older the better).

Not published in the US and out of print in the UK.

I keep wanting to give that book to people to read, and I'm not even loaning out my copy.

Ok, then, ham! "Mixed", I can't recall, but I believe there might be other flavors such as pizza and barbecue. But I'm not too certain, I might have to do some research at the supermarket (I'm a bore who only buys cheese).

I'm in Philly too. I live next door to the most amazing vegan cheesesteak shop.
They're not quite the same, but whatever they are is delicious! I'm leaving at 7am on the 19th. I don't think I could even pick up fresh chessesteaks at that hour. I could steal some nice freshly delivered rolls from outside!
