Tomorrow, April 25th is not only ANZAC day, but the 90th anniversary of one of the pivotal battles of the Great War, the battle of Villers-Bretonneux.
N'oublions jamais l'Australie, as the locals say.
Lest We Forget.

There's a souvenir from that battle in the Queensland Museum - a German tank called Mephisto (http://www.qm.qld.gov.au/features/mephisto/index.asp). For years it sat outside the museum - I used to walk past it on the way to work - but now it has its own room. It's a nasty-looking thing; I don't know if it would have been worse to be inside it or outside.

My grandfather is supposed to have fought there. I say "supposed" because my father has been known to embellish the truth. In fact I even doubted that my grandfather served until I saw the photographs of him and his two brothers in his Light Horse uniforms.
I really hope to visit there one day.

If he was in the Light Horse, he didn't serve there, as he would have been in Israel or thereabouts at the time.
He might have been at Beersheeba though.
