Moral; Don't go to freaking crackpot "Tax Protestors" for Income Tax Advice.
I can't feel to sorry for Snipes. Idiocy should reap it rewards.

I don't think anyone feels particularly sorry for him.
But I'm still disturbed that according to the BBC, "prosecutors said an example should be set because of Snipes's fame."
Justice should be blind, and not in the business of making examples.

Making examples is one of the main purposes of law. It's called detterrence.

dudalb beat me to it.
BTW, Snipes was not convicted of tax evasion, a felony, but of willful failure to file, a misdemeanor. That's why he got only 3 years, 1 year maximum for each of the 3 counts on which he was convicted.

True, but don't forget: When the freaking crackpot tax denier runs away to Panama to avoid prosecution for tax crimes and is hauled back to the US in chains, it's time to rethink relying on his "perfectly legal" detax theory to keep you out of jail.

Of course he will end spending probably one year in Club Fed.
Let the Demolition Man jokes begin.

There are many many people out there just like him! And they ain't in jail. I've received such notices myself (registered mail even) for in rears 3 years, but no threats (yet). (Albeit, I cooperate) So why did they go after HIM? There must be more to the story. On the surface, it sounds totally unfair, to single out certain people.
Why do you think there are ads on tv every day telling you that if you owe years of BACK TAXES to come see them and have your tax debt reduced by like 90%. ???
I have a plan for fairness regarding all this: The gov't needs to use birth records, citizenship, school records, etc.(licenses alone are not good enough as people in cities can be unlicensed and get around with friends, on bus, etc.), nor are postal records good as people can elude by not having a mailbox/home address) to first learn of everyone in this country. Then every person has to register with the IRS how they are able to live. Where their income comes from.
All sources must be listed, including moonlighting work. An approximation of this yearly income must be listed. If they do not comply; automatic jail. This information has nothing to do with actual filing of taxes. First the IRS must establish a base for each person alive in this country. The gov't loses billions to fraud each year, and that is non-sense and unfair to all. And so is throwing one person, here and there, in jail. Because we die, it is unfair. If we did not die, then it merely be an inconvenience for a while. Locking someone away for part of their life (or confiscating their income/assets) is unfair, unless you dilegently research every person, and do the same to all offenders. Otherwise it is unfair.

Nothing that hasn't been reported:
1. Dollar amounts
2. Attitude
3. Star power
After thinking about it more, I agree that three years is excessive. (Think about everything that has happened in your life in the past 3 years.) He should appeal the sentence.

Etc., X about 1000 days.
Weekends spent doing other work or thinking about work, shopping at same handful of stores and spending many times at gas stations. Also we can't forget the hours posting here. :)
