I predict it will contain squid guts, only larger.

;)

Oh man - I thought the squid was still alive! I was hoping to see giant tentacles waving around, people screaming etc.

;)

No, this is really cool. Thanks for the link.

:dl:

I was waiting for that!

20,000 Leagues Under the Sea and all that.

Damn, how many squid rings can you get from one of them?

So will there be two squid, one giant and one colossal? Or a single squid, both giant and colossal?

Two squid - the colossal one yesterday and the giant about to start in the next half-hour or so.

The giant one is 7m long, apparently, while yesterday's looked about 2-3m.

Great that it's school holidays here, so hopefully lots of kids are watching!

Edit - looks still fairly solid, and I see it's listed as a "larger colossal" one, so the giant may have to wait until tomorrow. It's half a ton and thawing in an ice bath so as to ensure it doesn't rot.

Cheers for the link. I've always found squids fascinating.

Do you know if they ever resurrected the idea of strapping cameras to sperm whales heads to get footage of giant or collosal squids in their natrual habitat?

Can't say I've heard of that one. Dunno as I'd volunteer to strap the camera on.

I can't remember the documentary that it was on. The actually paddled up to the sperm whale when it came up for air and stuck a camera with a suction cup on its head.

If I can find a proper link I'll post it. I think this could be it but I'm not sure http://www.encyclopedia.com/doc/1G1-20014214.html

What was odd was the whales clocked the camera after about 1/2 an hour and knocked it off.

Still think it was a good idea. I'd love to see footage of a collosal squid Vs sperm whale.

Call me when they dissect a giant lobster.

I'll be there with my liquid butter and lemon.

That is one hell of a lot of Calamari, I am telling you.
Really Cool Stuff.
Now I have a urge to put on one of my favorite Harry Harryhausen films, "It Came From Beneath The Sea" in which a giant cross between a Squid and an Octopus pulls down the Golden Gate Bridge...

And they are actually eating it. At least there will be plenty to go around.

I think it's a single squid. I didn't notice a wedding ring, although there was a rumour it was "seeing somebody".
