This ended up being forwarded to me. It seems to have originated from a ctal@topper.com but this does not seem to be a valid e-mail. If anyone here has seen it before or knows anything about its origins I would appreciate the info.

As to what it says......Hmmmm?

My experience with the internet has destroyed my ability to quickly and conclusively distinguish satire from unabashed stupidity.

Anyways, here it is:

Attention. Earth is wrought with a terrible affliction. A vile entity that modern environmental activism has taken on with vows to vanquish, or die trying. I speak, of course, of Carbon!

Yes, Carbon, the destroyer of life and, apparently, soon our world. What volcanoes, gamma ray bursts and meteors failed to do will soon be realized by unassuming Carbon. It will, apparently, end all life on Earth!!!!!!!!!

However here at the Carbon Studies Institute we are planning on defeating this evil presence once and for all. We will work to achieve the goals of the environmentalists by totally ridding our planet of this most hated element. Our plans are still in the formative stages, especially since it seems the last step will be our own inevitable destruction, by willful sacrifice, since so much of our bodies are composed of evil, evil Carbon.

You can help us with this noble quest with donations.

Well, since a Google search reveals no such place as the Carbon Studies Institute, I'd guess it's satire.

Not very good satire, but satire.

Asking for donations and then not telling you where and how to give them is probably a clue too.

Carbon, the word, is similar to 'car-ban'.

kind of spooky.

(btw, anyone know what a girl's second best friend is?)

It reads like a poor attempt at satire, trying to mimic the Dihydrogen Monoxide scare stories.

It's a satire by someone who completely and entirely fails to understand the very basic arguments being made by the people he thinks he disagrees with.

I hate when people who aren't funny try to be funny.

I thought of that too. It also kinda smells of the way that creationists will mistakenly assume that scientists simply believe in evolution by faith. This seems to work on the idea that because we want to moderate carbon emissions that carbon itself must be "evil."

By the way, Carbon Studies Institute = CSI!!!!

I wonder if that was intentional?

They do make for awful awkward moments.

Is this why no one likes me?
Or is it because of the smell?
