Thanks to wikileaks. Not the infamous billion year contract for the Sea Org - this is for "staff" Scientologists (as opposed to the lay "public" or celebrity breeds).

Makes for interesting reading. About as legally binding as a friendship bracelet, I would think (the waiver stuff particularly).

I love how they refer to the E-meter as a "religious artifact".......wow.

They have their own cult-speak -- quite humorous in many instances. I guess it makes 'em feel "special."

They have to, legally - the US FDA busted them for using it/pimping it as a medical device. Of course, this actually jibed quite nicely with the Hubbard diktat to convert Dianetics into a religion for tax reasons. But you can still find the FDA-enforced label on all e-meters that states the device "in itself does nothing".

From the site:
[Editor's note: Slate posted the contract in this space earlier today, but subsequently removed it.]
Well, that was fast. Now I feel left out.

Did anyone get a copy of it before it was yanked?

You can download it from numerous places, e.g. here (http://file.sunshinepress.org:54445/scientology-staff-contract.pdf). (The link in the Slate article still works fine)

Holy Cow. How can anyone read this thing, and then sign it?
Let’s take a look at Section 5, which I paraphrase just briefly.
5 – I intend to buy Scientology religious services.
5a – Benefits come only by my own efforts.
5b – I won’t buy new services unless I’m satisfied with my previous service, which is my own fault if I’m not.
5c – Scientology will never return my money (everywhere herein referred to as "religious donation").
5d – Scientology will compile a dossier on me. It’ll be kept secret from me.
5e – Scientology decides exactly which services I am obligated to buy.
fredcarr, if you're out there, please tell me you didn't sign this thing. It's not legally binding, but it's an insult to any notion of self-respect.

Carr isn't (AFAIK) Sea Org. You have to already have bought the lower level BS before you get presented with this. I doubt anyone actually reads most of it.

7e means that if David Miscavige weren't already staff he couldn't join. And by being antagonistic to scientology I'm barring the rest of my family from becoming scientology staff members. Cool

Awesome!!! I can now go buy my very own "religious artifact" (i.e., a digital multimeter) at RadioShack for $20
