NBC Nightly News with Brian Williams did a report tonight on a teenager who traveled across the North Pole with her father (demonstrate how the Arctic ice pack is receding in the face of global warming) to demonstrate how the Arctic ice pack is receding in the face of global warming.

They did a great job of presenting the story, showing her soft, warm, innocent face against the harshness of the environment, the cascading chunks of ice falling from glaciers, the two penguins on an ice floe . . .

Ummm . . . what?!? You know, if there are penguins at the North Pole, NBC has a bigger story here than this girl! Last I checked, they were only found in the southern hemisphere, mainly in Antarctica.

The penguins seem to be stock footage, as does the cascading ice. They mentioned that they're working on fixing the footage, so go see it while it's still up there!

hahahahaha!

Puckish of me, I know, but I've always wished I had the means to capture a few dozen penguins and put them in the Arctic to see if they "take."

Next you'll be telling me there's no pole sticking up out the ice.

No, no pole....or penguins.....there are a workshop with elves and toys.....but no pole or penguins......
Reality can be harsh.

I'd say her effort backfired.

Obviously, we don't have the ice pack recession she was hoping to demonstrate.

She didn't have to swim to the North Pole.

Back when I was in college, one of the reasons I decided not to pursue journalism was I was afraid I wasn't a diligent enough researcher.

How wrong I was.

They've edited out the pengiuns, after numerous comments about it here (http://www.newsvine.com/_video/2008/04/27/1456320-teenage-girl-reaches-north-pole).
