Late last night, I noticed an informercial with Peter Popoff. And guess what? He is selling something else. NO MORE "Miracle Spring Water." Instead, he is selling "the Miracle Manna Loaf."
“This Miracle Manna Loaf contains the ingredients oulined in Ezekiel 4:9. When these ingredients are combined together an amazing process takes place: a truly divine food is the result!… According to 1 Kings 19:6-8 fill a glass with water until it overflows…Just before you go to bed tonight, break off three small pieces of the Miracle Manna and eat them slowly one at a time. After you eat each piece take a sip of water from the glass and say, “In the Name of Jesus.” Take the Miracle Manna that’s left over and put it next to your bed along with the remaining cup of water. I believe God will send angels to trouble the water as you sleep”
When will this guy just give up??? I guess as long as he is making money, we will continue to see him! :::sighs::

It's free and it's always free, until you get the manna and the instructions talk about sending moola. I watched a video where he would say now this is free to you but it's very important to follow the instructions we give you...CAN YOU GUESS WHAT THE INSTRUCTIONS SAY, send me moola for the manna.

He forgot that the meek shall inherit the earth and you can't get much meeker than us. Now I just have to make a point about St Peter of Popping Off he's one ugly SOB, that idiot hit every branch on the ugly tree coming down. Well somebody had to say it, I'm just glad it was me.

If someone would only expose Popoff as a fake, like, say, on a popular television program, I bet it would ruin his reputation, and he'd never be able to scam anyone ever again.

Thanks for mentioning The Faith Healers. I have the book but skipped around while reading it and completely missed the chapter on Popoff somehow. :o
How horrible. So, the fake products obviously have a long history. And the most damning thing is the electronic device that he wore behind his ear by which his wife would feed him information that he used to "call" people out from the audience, attributing it to the holy spirit. That's really disgusting. So a quick internet search shows that Popoff is still in business, even after he had to declare bankruptcy after James Randi's information came to light. I don't understand that at all. The information is readily available; it's even included in the first paragraph on Wikipedia. Why would ANYONE still trust him?

Yes, but Peter 9:11 states just as clearly:
"Thou shalt take my flock of sheep, and shear them for all their wool. Should their wool become exhausted, then thou shalt bleed them of their blood at the altar"

Swaggart is as popular now as he was before it was revealed that he visited hookers. Of course, unlike Popoff, his peccadillo was more sin than criminal fraud. Still, Christianity is built on the cornerstone of people who do wrong can be redeemed and then go on to perform God's work.
We have no way of knowing how many of Popoff's current followers are aware of his grossly offensive past. I suspect the number is very small but not zero. If those suspicions are true (or if I am underestimating the number), then it is merely evidence of how fascinating human behavior can be.

Three stars? Granted, it's hard to come up with a mathematical way of rating stupid.
ETA: Clarification. Charities are not stupid, and it's not stupid to try to rate them on efficiency. But these ratings do not include potential stupid, which is clearly a factor in Popoff's oganization.

It is not as bad as it seems:
Ezekiel 4:15
Then he said unto me, Lo, I have given thee cow's dung for man's dung, and thou shalt prepare thy bread therewith.
You can use cow manure instead!
Are part of the instructions to lay on your side for about 13 months? That could be the loophole for the angels not to show up.
Ezekiel 4:9
Take thou also unto thee wheat, and barley, and beans, and lentiles, and millet, and fitches, and put them in one vessel, and make thee bread thereof, according to the number of the days that thou shalt lie upon thy side, three hundred and ninety days shalt thou eat thereof.

I think most people simply forgot about his prior humiliation. Randi's appearance on the Tonight Show was close to 20 years ago, wasn't it?
I caught a minute of Popoff's show this morning. He's still doing the Old Person in Wheelchair Gets Up and Walks routine. Never mind that the person could walk to begin with.

My confusion over his ability to keep running is the way in which he was exposed. His wife reading prayer cards and speaking to through a wireless earpiece to him. He was caught red handed as a complete fraud. How could anyone have seen how that went down, and even for a second considered he may still be legit? How can anyone who really is Christian not have been offended that this man was lying and cheating so blatantly? I would think they would be outraged that someone would do that in the name of their God. I honestly don't get it.
I prefer to believe (as Steve S said), that it was just so long ago that his current flock are people who aren't aware of it. I find it virtually unfathomable that anyone could have seen the way he was exposed, what he was doing, and even give the guy the time of day again after.

One thing I've always felt is that skeptics and skeptical organizations can serve as a repository of these scam tactics - a sort of institutional memory.
The challenge is not just to be a resource, but to pre-emptively educate so that the scammers have a smaller target population of marks. Ideally, zero.

I've said it before and I'll say it again. THEISTS LACK THE ABILITY TO PROCESS, OR REFUSE TO ENGAGE IN, RATIONAL THOUGHT!!! If they were capable of rational thought, they wouldn't be theists. It irks me that I am often chastised for pointing this out yet theists continue, unabatedly, to prove this seeming assertion valid!!!
