This is a topic that has been floating around for a while. I am surprised no-one has made a post about it.
The 'it' being Phorm (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Phorm).
Basically the guys who you hand over your cash to are not happy with this arrangement. They want to flog your browsing history to a second party (http://www.badphorm.co.uk/page.php?2)second party and they in return will be able to give you the internet equivalent of junk mail.
I do not expect my phone company to listen to my calls or the mail to open my letters in order to target advertising at me so why should the net be any different?
