Hello, everyone!

In years past, there has been a fun part of TAM where individuals bring books and donate them, and we sell them back to the crowd and benefit the TAM Scholarship Fund. The books usually sold for around a dollar each, and everyone had lots of fun.

I'm hoping we can have the same amount of fun this year, but I'd like to do it a little bit differently.

FIRST OF ALL, BRING YOUR FAVOURITE BOOK TO TAM TO DONATE TO THE TABLE. (If you want, I mean, but you should want, as it's for a good cause!)

THEN - mark your favourite page of the book. The one that sticks out to you the most, the one that changed you the most, the one that you most want to share.

On that page, on whatever you used to mark it, write to the buyer and tell them why you like your book so much, why they should pay attention to that particular page, and anything else you'd like to say.

Instead of the books being a dollar, they will be five dollars for a paperback and eight dollars for a hardcover. The money will go to the TAM 7 Scholarship Fund, and we'll all have a blast reading each other's messages, I hope. I've already got my book ready, and here's a picture, if you'd like to see it:

For a mere five dollars, you can have this copy of Twinkle, Twinkle, "Killer" Kane! by William Peter Blatty, which has totally changed my life.

Use this thread to promote your book!

I got a few books I either read, and didn't like, or do not anticipate reading soon, 'cause the previous ones in the series I didn't like. The only problem is, a lot of them are autographed "To Mitchell".

Is there anyone else coming to TAM, named Mitchell, who happens to have a thing for sucky sci-fi?

(I will be assembling a list of books, eventually.)

I live in Vegas and have tons of books I'd love to donate to anyone who wants them... they are all good... but I don't think I have it in me to write in all of them. I'd love to donate them for the scholarship fund... you can sell them as cheap as you want... I'm quite the bibliophile, and I need to have a reason to gather a bunch together and share them with people who will use them as more than dust collectors, paperweights, shelf supports, and the like...

Are you interested? Most are of the skeptic nonfiction variety I think... lots of true crime and maybe some left over from my woo days... not sure. Lots of memoirs. Lots of lay man's science... humor... bathroom reading...

If not, I keep thinking I'll donate them to the womens prison or something. I hate to waste books that others could enjoy.

well pick ONE to write and maybe write a little something on the inside cover about why you like it.

I thinks it's for a book that is very special to you.

I have a nice selection of books about who knows what left by Japanese exchange students... I'll throw those in too. I hope they're not pornographic. Maybe someone will know what they say.

I always like this book crossing idea http://www.bookcrossing.com/home where you set books free in the wild... but I'm too lazy to register my books and such. In the past I just gathered up a whole bunch of books and put them in my libraries return slot so they could sell at their used book store or whatever. But I would be tickled if anyone at TAM wanted them... and glad to take the unwanted books to the library. I worked with kids in juvenile, and you'd be surprised how much they get "into" reading when there is nothing else to do. It's kind of neat, really. A lot of them didn't know they liked reading until they went to jail.

ETA: it looks like I have 3 copies of Shogun in Japanese signed by the author... but I don't read Japanese... so who knows...

Remie, my 19 year old son is waiting to hear if he can go to TAM as a scholarship recipient... he can pay some of the money... I have a LOT of used books... some I even got at prior Tams... if he can get a scholarship I bet I can get him to lug the books in on Wednesday, when I'm slated for volunteer work.

Angela Grace (aka articulett)-- mother of Atomicfog aka Atom Fogarty. He's over 6 foot and strong and willing to work his butt off to attend TAM. I could only afford to pay for myself this year... he was lucky enough to get a scholarship in past year. Can you check with the powers that be as to scholarship status. I'm sure he has his own books to donate as well.

I got some redundant copies of DVDs, that I don't need, that are actually pretty good. I think I'll toss 'em into the pile.

I brought two Sagan books and The Godless Constitution to TAA2 to give to HCMom.

For TAM 3 I thought I'd bring my first edition hardback of Why people believe weird things thinking maybe Shermer could sign it and they could auction it off... only to discover the SS table had 3 or 4 fresh out of the box copies they were selling. :(

I'll try to figure out what book I could consider my favorite and write a note in it, but I also have a LOAD of books, mostly novels, mostly detective novels and doctor novels, that I was going to go take to the used book store and drop off in the middle of the night so they couldn't be refused.

Shall I bring them?

Hi all

I'm bringing an origami book I wrote in 1990. It's called "Horrorgami: Spooky Paper Folding Just for Fun". Happy to autograph it to whoever buys it. I love this book as it's the only one I wrote that was in fact banned by a school board in the USA.

See you all in a few days, very jet lagged.

I'm a teacher... I will have to get it first just to spite whomever banned it and wherever they banned it. I'm a science teacher... I can see using this for projects...

I still remember the little oragami bustiere and stiletto heels on the cover!

I'm bringing quite a few books, including some skeptical and astronomy books I no longer need. I'm too lazy to write them down or scan the covers or link to Amazon covers, so I'll just stick 'em under a piece of paper that says "From the BA".

Sold!* My sister and her kids would love that, and I have to top the DVD I bought the kids at TAM 5.5.

*Assuming one of you bastards doesn't beat me to it!

Hmmmm... I just remembered that Remie ordered us to use this page to pimp our book, so as soon as I actually find the book, since really all I've done so far is select the genre, I'll get to the pimping.

I shall be bringing "The Mysterious Stranger" by Mark Twain. There is a passage near the very end of the book that just about sums it all up for me.
