Well, not really, because prochlorococcus (http://genome.jgi-psf.org/finished_microbes/prom9/prom9.home.html) has probably been around a lot longer than that. But today is the twentieth anniversary of its discovery, and there's celebratin' (http://www.npr.org/templates/story/story.php?storyId=91483930&ft=2&f=510221) to do.
If you like breathing, you should especially like prochlorococcus, since it's estimated that the microbe produces as much as 20% of the oxygen you breathe.
