This is a PM I got on youtube. Guy PM's me and starts trying to convert me. At first, I thought I was just talking to a fundie, but after I tried asking some questions, he goes all conspiracy theory SuperNova!

The bible never states an eternal punishment.
But it states a hell. Some place you wouldn't want to be in for any amount of time. God is showing his mercy by what Jesus done on the cross, what else is there left after you reject it?

You would think that after all the Y2K hysteria, people would have learned their lesson about this sort of thing. Its really rather odd to me that so many people seem to look forward to the end of the world.

As I understand it, this entire 2012 meme is based on the Mayan calendar. However, everything I have read about the Mayan calendar "ending" in 2012 is nonesense; it was a perpetual calendar based, and 2012 simply marked the end of a cycle.

If I am not mistaken, in 2012 the Earth will have moved into a new zodiac sign. However, due to the scale involved, it takes thousands of years for the Earth to move across the zodiac. We've been moving into the next zodiac phase since long before I was born (1980); why would one day in one year be so significant? To me that's like driving from NY to California, and claiming that mile marker 175 on US 80 holds special significance. Why?

Anyhow, this guy is dead wrong. My dog, a 33-degree free mason, has already promised me that the end of the world will occur on May 23, 2015, when Doc Brown travels to the future, meets an aging Christopher Lloyd, and causes a universe-shattering paradox. It's a widely believed fact- and you heard it here first.

Reading that reminded me of a manuscript that a man handed to me years ago, when I worked at a Barnes & Noble. He said, "I thought you should have this" and passed over about 200 double-sided typed pages. I still have it. I just went and dug it out. Here's a sample (all errors included):

What I find interesting is the meshing of Christianity with astrology and the Aztec-predicted alignment in the "true believer's" words there...

Could it be that in allowing these impurities in his/her version of Christianity that (s)he is committing blasphemy and possibly consigning him/herself to hell?

The fact that the Aztecs and other South American cultures had absolutely no knowledge of Christianity I'm surprised that they seem to jump so heavily on this particular bandwagon. It's not just Christians either, it does seem that there are a large proportion of people who do seem to have some sort of death wish fetish with regard to the end of the world. Even when the supposed dates are surpassed it doesn't stop then from latching onto the next date. It's truly bizarre. My conclusion is that a large proportion of human beings are not too able to look at their world with much rationalisation, almost as if it's just a bit too much for them and they'd rather just imagine something else.

The Bible is a book which was written down by human beings. Were even ONE of those human beings to have an ulterior motive, the 'bible' becomes the bibull.

If God truly want's us to behave a certain way, whats to stop God giving us a bible in our minds, which is always there in each and every one of us, so everyone would know where they stood and the consequences (if there are any) of 'disobedience'?
