Why are these so called paranormal investigators on A&E Paranormal State, and Chip Coffee so intent on making everything about demons. Are they just trying to scare people for good TV?

My question is Aren't Demons just literary figures that have been over exaggerated by the bible?

I tried to look them up on Google, but really didn't get where they were originally thought up, and how they were made real by the christian bible.

Any links?

I really thought Chip Coffey was a new ice cream flavor from Starbucks

I am taking the advice of Hokulele and manning up to add something to this forum. I hope this is a good start. I really do enjoy this skeptic stuff and woiuld like to stay. I know, I've been a Dick.

Anyway, I am skeptical of the fact that these people are claiming they are seeing demons, when I believe demons are just made up literary figures.

Well we see the Demons turn out every week (and my son works for them!)

One of my first exposures to the Forum was around the time of this guy who said he could take pictures of demons. He had a very unusual Forum name but dang if I can remember it. :)

I think all that stuff got lost in the Great Accidental Purge/Forum Upgrade a few years ago.

The discovery of demons by this, and so many other, paranormal groups these days seems to me to be for a couple reasons:

1) It makes more interesting tv, and better ratings.
2) It makes the investigators seem more daring, professional, and successful.
3) For the investigators that actually believe their own bunk, it feeds their belief system.

If the above is true, we can expect more of this kind of thing, and probably more biblical references soon as well.

The series of Paranormal State has just run on tv here. The leader of the teenagers doing the ghost hunting talked about his own personal demons at the beginning. I'm sorry I can't expand on that but the show was so dreadful to watch that I didn't take much notice of it. I got the impression it was like some kind of soap drama, you know I'll add my own personal demons just to boost it up. Chip Coffey, by the way, is definitely in a league of his own.

This from the expert on imaginary figures.

Yes! But I would hardly call it good tv. Ghost shows are everywhere, and they're getting boring. Demons, though. Well, demons are malicious and after our souls! Paranormal State looks like it's just trying to be creepier than your average ghost show. These people are doing such dangerous work, the name of the demon can't even be uttered out loud without serious consequences. Woooooooooo-ooooooooooooo. Take that, Ghost Hunters!

Anybody else notice how similar Paranormal State is to the CW series Supernatural? Except that Supernatural is watchable and stars a pair of hot guys.

It is trying to be creepier, but it's not. They are more boring than ghost hunters IMO. I think the whole Demon angle is cheezy.

Oh for sure. The lead demon hunter looks half asleep most of the time himself. Must be all that work during dead time. It's the worst paranormal show on tv, and that's pretty blasted terrible.

That was really funny. I actually laughed out loud. The whole dead time really cracks me up. Don't they realize there are no clocks in ghostland. LOL

Or what if the demons and ghosts forgot to set their clocks for daylight savings time?

I'm constantly surprised by how many people I know wholeheartedly believe in demons, and really fear them and blame them for things that go bad in their lives. I've even heard a couple of comments that of course ghosts don't really exist, it's demons who are doing all that going bump in the night.

Spooks follow fashions, just like any human cultural creation.
In my childhood, ghosts rattled chains, wore sheets and went "Wooooo".
Then there was "The Exorcist" and "The Amityville Horror". Suddenly ghosts vomited goo, threw things around and went "Oink!"

Aliens are the same- once they had antennae and went "Bleep!", now they all look like ET.

The supernatural imitates art.

Demons are just spooks with pointy teef.
Bring back the bogle, say I.

Demons and ghosts have also become less mythical. A hundred years ago spooky stories were greatly exaggerated. Nowadays with our technology they're still exaggerated but not as graphical or lurid in detail. (Well sometimes anyway :D )

They have at least one thing in common: I refuse to watch either of them.
