Fiery Object Mystifies Scientists (http://rr-bb.com/showthread.php?s=&threadid=111903)

Here are some highlights:

[After a news story about an atmospheric fireball is posted] "hmm... Maybe we were witnessing a supernatural event? I know that sounds crazy but I keep on thinking of satan and the 1/3 of his angels gettin hurled down to the earth at the beginning."
- tractsforchrist (http://rr-bb.com/showthread.php?postid=1235334#post1235334)

Wow! Living in todays world, I sure would'nt rule that one out tractsforchrist!
- KateCanada (http://rr-bb.com/showthread.php?postid=1235353#post1235353)

"Or maybe even one of God's major angels on the move."
- Mongoose60 (http://rr-bb.com/showthread.php?postid=1235345#post1235345)

"You guys, I magnified the image [of the celestial fireball]... I know this sounds like real crazy... but it looks like a horse or a dragon. Look at the 'eye' and the snout and the mane of fire...

[After seeing the pic] "Well, I'm convinced we are living in the end times! It very well could be!!! Lookin up with anticipation."
- KateCanada (http://rr-bb.com/showthread.php?postid=1236104#post1236104)

"Wow! That is a weird pic and it INSTANTLY it made me think of this: The False Prophet! 'And he performed great signs, so that he even makes fire come down out of heaven to the earth in the presence of men' (Revelation 13:11-13)."
- nooneuno (http://rr-bb.com/showthread.php?postid=1235438#post1235438)

"A ball of fire swooping outta the sky and here they go trying to explain something away as if it didn't matter or was insignificant. HELLOOOOO NASA? Is ther anybody in there?.. If some of these scientists would simply believe upon God imagine what they could discover about the world!"
- halfpint (http://rr-bb.com/showthread.php?postid=1236367#post1236367)

"Did satan just fall to earth?"
- CaptainRoboT2 (http://rr-bb.com/showthread.php?postid=1238184#post1238184)

Finally, busting irony meters around the universe,

"Looks like what I would imagine a phoenix would being reborn. Fiery rebirth once every 1000 years or so the legend goes. Except there is no such thing as a phoenix outside of legend."
- Mrs. Hoppes (http://rr-bb.com/showthread.php?postid=1238209#post1238209)

While this is, at first glance, only good for some cheap laughs at the expense of fundies, it does bring up a valid point. Historically, humans have associated celestial phenomena with all manner of omens and superstitious things. It seems we haven't really changed all that much, have we? We still see faces in the clouds, and evil signs in unusual meteors, and so on...

Is the sky simply something so captivating that we'll never entirely learn to treat it rationally?

Looking closer at the pictures it does very much look like the explosion was produced by a plane, as one of the hypotheses goes "maybe a military jet unloading fuel and igniting it with its afterburners". That it seems to descend and penetrate the clouds is a illusionary deception. The "horse head" is produced by clouds in front of the fireball.

My grandmother in law was telling me about it being the end of times. "There will be wars and rumours of wars", just like the bible said.

So I asked her, when has there ever been a time in history when there weren't wars or rumours of wars.

Freakin' morons.. It's clearly a Giant Space Squid re-entering the atmosphere. I think we're more likely to see Godzilla than the Four Hosemen of the Apocalypse.

And yet when God took a shot across our bow, and plunged the Shoemaker-Levy comet into Jupiter, causing an explosion several times larger than the Earth, not a church on our planet even noticed. No sermons, no comment. Nothing.

Planet-busting comets just a few doors down mean nothing to them: but let a pig fart in their backyard, and its an obvious Message From God.

No. He's here with me in Chicago. He wants to devour some primitive villagers, and he's POed that there aren't any around here.

I keep telling him that soccer moms in Waukegan are the same thing.

He'll learn when he gets hungry enough.

Of course the big question still remains: is it being a fundy that turns your brain to mush or is it having mush for brains that makes you a fundy?

I have no problem with that yellow cloud. It's just some cloud or something, and certainly there is a rational explanation for it. But what about this red arrow? There is no rational explanation for a big red arrow in the sky! And don't tell me it's just a weather ballon.

That red arrow has made a believer out of me. An arrow so poorly and crudely drawn could only be the work of God.

Personally, I agree that it looks like a giant squid. Where did they get the idea of a horse's head from?

This just in: After the experts studied the picture closely, they determined that it's only a picture of a contrail from a high flying plane with the sun reflecting off it, just as it would a cloud. If you look at the entire picture, not the cropped close-up, this becomes immediately obvious.

Percy: Only this morning in the courtyard, I saw a horse with two heads and two bodies!
Edmund: Two horses standing next to each other?
Percy: Yes, I suppose it could have been.

HAMLET Do you see yonder cloud that's almost in shape of a camel?
POLONIUS By the mass, and 'tis like a camel, indeed.
HAMLET Methinks it is like a weasel.
POLONIUS It is backed like a weasel.
HAMLET Or like a whale?
POLONIUS Very like a whale.
HAMLET Or perhaps like the Antichrist?
POLONIUS Tell you what: Looks perfectly like the Antichrist.
